Is there, she asks, having been through the drop-downs a number of times now, any way to change the default from No sig-line to Sig-line on? I'd really Rather Not have to click the button every freaking time I write an email.

At the day-job today, I have a new computer and two! new! email! systems! to learn. What fun. Took me, I am ashamed to say, ten minutes to find the button to turn the new 'puter on.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but I once had a new computer built for me, took it home and plugged it in and couldn't get anything to happen. Eventually I took it back to the shop, where they plugged it in, pressed the switch and it started fine.

(In my defence, I normally set them up so that they start automatically when the power comes on, without needing to press anything, because I expect them to run unattended even with power outages, so I'd forgotton that the default state needed the switch to be pressed. But if I can do it (and I've built dozens of the things) then I can't criticise anyone else...)
