Had the plumber early. The leak is now definitively fixed and I get to put the bathroom back together.

Steve's Mission Number One today is to schlep those hundreds and hundreds of Saltations that he and I packed over the weekend to the Waterville Post Office so that they can begin their various journeys to wherever it is they're going.

It's hot, did I say?

Sat down to pay bills and made the happy discovery that the "budget" oil bill has gone up by $133/month while my paycheck has gone up by...$39.20/month. Before taxes. Um, yeah; that math works...

The Expanding Universe Contest is going like a houseafire. It's open to anyone who has never read a Liaden Universe® novel, with a chance for bloggers to win a B&N gift card. Check it out.

*Considers posting news of the contest to the day-job's announcement list, because I'm in a bad mood, anyway, and it's hot -- did I mention that?*

A friend is shooting for the Democratic nomination to the State Legislature, so we're for the caucus meeting this evening at the Waterville High School auditorium. Where it will be hot.

Did I remember to mention here that Saltation debuted at Number Ten on the Locus Bestselling Hardcovers list, reported in the July issue, covering April sales?

Various things on today's list have already been crossed off, with several more trembling on the verge.

How's your day going?

Pretty good actually. The weather in the Gulf seems to have a cloud cover over this part of New Mexico and the temp is supposed to only be in the middle to high 80's most of the week!!

going well, thank you

I actually completed the thing that I meant to do today. That happens so rarely that I am feeling a bit awed by it.

Hoping that my cats have not melted at home while I luxuriate at work in the air conditioned office.

My day was just OK, but now I have a kitty giving my wrist and hand a bath, so I'm better...even though I'm typing with just the other hand!

I love your incredibly eclectic taste in music

Mariah blows the stars around and sets the clouds to flyin'

I talk to the trees, but they don't listen to me...
(from the same musical as your title song, if you aren't familiar, and I believe it's only been recorded by Clint Eastwood.)

If the Liaden Universe were a TV series or a collection of movies, then there would be lots of music vid fodder in Paint Your Wagon

My day? Doing good work at the new job. I'm needed, I'm useful, the people are nice, I like what I do. Today double the normal Monday reports (even though it's Tuesday) got them all done by 4:30. At home, kitchen faucet has died giving off more water at its bottom its top. Emergency trip to Menards yields this gem. (http://shop.menards.com/shop/store/20090519001/items/media/Plumbing/Delta/ProductLarge/470-DST.jpg) Installation by sibling tomorrow. Dishes will have to wait. It's dark now and I still have to water the grass seed. 10:15pm 80º and 69% humidity.

If the music tells a story, I tend to remember it. It's a minor superpower, and of dubious use, but mine own.

Funny thing, They Call the Wind Mariah got stuck in my head during the last couple days -- no reason for it to have done; I don't think I've heard it in years. I sang a couple bars to Steve, who didn't off-hand know it, which got me to thinking about how long I'd known it, which led to Wikipedia to research dates, aaaannnnnd, given that the play went on stage in 1951, and I rejoiced in a mother and a grandmother who both kept the radio tuned 24/7 to the show-tune station. . .

Pretty much I've known this song my Entire Life. Probably I heard it in my cradle.

In fact, They Call the Wind Mariah was the source for my very first theological argument.

Me: Gramma, where can you go where God can't find you?

Gramma: Honey, you can't go anywhere that God can't find you*, don't you worry about that!

Me: But it says in the song...

* * *
I don't recall the tree song at all; maybe it didn't get play? *goes off to YouTube.*

_____________
*As it turned out, this was Theologically Incorrect, as I was later taught that Hell is the absence of God. Which would mean, if you wanted to go someplace where God can't find you, a cabin in Hell would your option. When you're six, though, you kind of accept the Authority of Gramma, who, for obvious reasons might not be willing to discuss this in the depth it clearly deserved.
