Not being in publishing, I wouldn't know for sure, but I suspect that either the artist or the publisher holds the rights to the cover art so, unless the artist/publisher has granted permission, this could be construed as copyright infringement.
I think the point of this is to allow downloading of album (CD) cover art for use on people's music player. Most of them will show the album cover while the song is playing.
This site surfaces cover art from amazon.com. If you view-source, you'll see that the images are direct from Amazon. All they do is aggregate the images.
They seem to have, either accidentally or on purpose, not filtered this down to only music.
I won't get into what's right or wrong, but that seems to be what this is for.
Yes, this. It's mainly used for audiobooks, in this case. For example, my iPod will show the book cover art for an audiobook I have uploaded to my device, so that I can flip through the visual art to find a book instead of looking at a list. For an item I have created (ie, copied my cds to my computer) instead of purchased online, I would have to 'supply' the artwork. Otherwise it shows as a blank page or question mark. It's solely an image file.
They're putting up affiliate links to Amazon using links and pics from Amazon, but it looks like they've incorrectly set up the query/filter so that it's pulling books as well as music.
THe domain owner is hidden behind a front organization, if you do a whois you get some contact info. I'd start their and let them know you are unhappy about the situation.
Whatever else this post accomplished, it just led me to order Duainfey. And believe me, that is an accomplishment, as I rarely, rarely, rarely ever buy books that aren't on Kindle these days!
FYI, you can buy almost all Lee&Miller ebooks over at webscription.net, in Kindle-compatible format, very cheap and no DRM. I beleive there are negotiations ongoing to have Baen ebooks available directly at Amazon but the blocking point seems to be Amazon's insistence on DRM.
Well, it looks like the question is already answered but you're welcome to use my WTF icon since I made it myself using my own art (I've considered taking off of my store (http://www.cafepress.com/KatsKats) because of the content but it's just so darn useful!).
Copyright infringement?
