Can somebody tell me what this is about?

It looks like somebody's ripping off book covers to be used as CD covers?

I need a WTF? icon...

Copyright infringement?

Not being in publishing, I wouldn't know for sure, but I suspect that either the artist or the publisher holds the rights to the cover art so, unless the artist/publisher has granted permission, this could be construed as copyright infringement.

Perhaps alert the publisher?

The ironic bit being the 'copyright' claim at the bottom.

Any chance those are cover art for electronic versions of the book, either ebook or audio book, separate download? Grasping at straws here . . .

Yeah, contact publisher or agent.

For music players

I think the point of this is to allow downloading of album (CD) cover art for use on people's music player. Most of them will show the album cover while the song is playing.

This site surfaces cover art from amazon.com. If you view-source, you'll see that the images are direct from Amazon. All they do is aggregate the images.

They seem to have, either accidentally or on purpose, not filtered this down to only music.

I won't get into what's right or wrong, but that seems to be what this is for.

Yes, this. It's mainly used for audiobooks, in this case. For example, my iPod will show the book cover art for an audiobook I have uploaded to my device, so that I can flip through the visual art to find a book instead of looking at a list. For an item I have created (ie, copied my cds to my computer) instead of purchased online, I would have to 'supply' the artwork. Otherwise it shows as a blank page or question mark. It's solely an image file.

(Edited to correct my terminology!)

They're putting up affiliate links to Amazon using links and pics from Amazon, but it looks like they've incorrectly set up the query/filter so that it's pulling books as well as music.

I think it's a stuff up, rather than sinister.

Whatever else this post accomplished, it just led me to order Duainfey. And believe me, that is an accomplishment, as I rarely, rarely, rarely ever buy books that aren't on Kindle these days!

Well, that was unlooked-for. Thank you!

Just for future information, though -- you can get all of our Baen titles for your Kindle, over here ().

Your link didn't work. But I think you just made two sales. I'll give the pb to a friend!

Do get Longeye, too! Seriously, they go together, and just reading Duainfey... may leave you with the wrong impression.

FYI, you can buy almost all Lee&Miller ebooks over at webscription.net, in Kindle-compatible format, very cheap and no DRM.
I beleive there are negotiations ongoing to have Baen ebooks available directly at Amazon but the blocking point seems to be Amazon's insistence on DRM.

Well, it looks like the question is already answered but you're welcome to use my WTF icon since I made it myself using my own art (I've considered taking off of my store (http://www.cafepress.com/KatsKats) because of the content but it's just so darn useful!).
