OK. I think I've got the recycled stuff woven in nice and tight and everything in the right place.

I think.

The recycled scenes came to about 6700 words, give some or take it, and magically I have a smidge more than half a book in the hopper. Yes, I am a ghoddess, thank you very much.

As I type, Steve is packing. He plans to be on the road to North Carolina and points ReCONStructive early tomorrow morning. The cats are dubious with regard to my ability to wait on them tail and paw and fulfill their every desire while he's gone.

I'm kinda dubious about that, myself. Though I will, of course, do my very best.

For the moment, having cut, pasted, rewritten, and retrofitted all day, I think I'll go do something useful, like the dishes, then see if I have a book to read that isn't science fiction or fantasy...

So I just finished Saltation & that of course ties into Plan B which I thoroughly loved. As all book addicts I needed more, so Scott Raun informed me of Ghost Ship. Now I'm crushed to find it will only be 100k long. Wail. lament, woe etc. I think & Mr Tavian (my katz) agrees (tho the head skritch may have influenced him) this needs to be at least twice as long. In my case big fat book of Liadian goodness will make me happy & Mr Tavian thinks he'll get more skritchy time out of it. So there you have it, votes for longer books from two of your fans. :)

Each of the Liaden books was aimed to be 100kwords long (I think some may have been up to 20% over in the final version), so you can guess that it will be near enough the same size as the others. Unless like Fledgling it splits into two books.

(And note that a 'word' does not have a consistent definition -- for instant is "it's" one word or two? Different software counts it either way, and so do different people. But I assume that our authors use fairly consistent software whichever way it does it, so 100kwords is probably around 300+ pages in mass market paperback form.)

Wonderful news.. Ghost Ship over 1/2 done. Although like von Krag my opinion is that longer is better than shorter. Don't know what he means by 100 k. One hundred kilometers. That's very long. Or weighs 100 k. that's weighing a lot.

Good luck,

The word count meter says out of 100000, i.e. 100 kilo-words or 100k. But see my reply to him about the length...
