It is sad to think that the O'Brien family does not know of gatherings where wearing such tails would be seen as a small first step on the way to Doing It Right as a Furry. I see many more children going about in "costumish" attire in ordinary daily outings than would ever have happened in my childhood. Alas, Tim O'Brien did not have an email addy in that article.

My parental issue has been to get my son to understand what costume is appropriate where: no universal-costume is found in his wardrobe. He's 16, and assembles getups from bits and pieces, but with no understanding of improving the presentation, in spite of the demonstrations we give him in our use of costume/fancy dress.
