Galactic Geography for Five Hundred

Who can find the location of Surebleak? I'm looking for a system designation, sector name, street address -- whatever.

First one to find it receives the Public Gratitude of an, err, Grateful Author.

Also from I Dare

"Surebleak is at the back end of nowhere - and it's cold"

"There aren't any major trade routes close, but there are three solid mid-level routes through that sector"

Location of Surebleak

Ok. Puttin on the old thinkin cap. In addition to the excellent location guidelines of your other readers. May I point out that Surebleak was supposed to be a important location for a big Terran mining company. And so was scheduled for weather improvement satellites and such. But...a bigger mine of whatever was found closer to Terra, so cheaper to develop. Surebleak was abandoned to its own devices by that mining company for greener pastures. Then, on the other hand... Miri's grandmother when running from a marriage she hated ended up on Surebleak. She was from Clan Erob on Lytaxin, wasn't it? Clan Erob even though a High House, didn't live on Liad but on one of the outer planets of Liaden space. Miri's grandma was able to get to Surebleak, a Terran planet. Thus...probably Surebleak is on the border between the Terran sector and the Liaden sector. So draw a line straight from Terra to Lytaxin was it? Seat of Clan Erob and go maybe half way (?) between and there you have the location of Surebleak. As I remember a protrait of Miri's grandma hangs in the Erob clan house. Miri was pronounced to look exactly like her. That's my guess. Some people do cross word puzzles to preserve their memory in old age. I try and remember the long story of Clan Korval instead.

IIRC, it's not that it was closer to Terra. It's that a big chunk of it was floating in open space in another system—they didn't have to mine for it, just carve it off the rock.

According to "Moon on the Hills" in "Halfling Moon", the (local) name of the double star of the Surebleak system is Chuck-Honey, and a note that Pat Rin received from Liad was "surely not more than a day or two out of Solcintra Port"

Philip, from Auckland

P.S. Are you aware of this site http://www.wethreethieves.com/albums/media/books/s/sharon_lee_and_steve_miller/ , which I came across while searching for the phrase "pilot-friendly Surebleak Port"? It appears to have full text copies of all of the pre-Theo Liaden novels, plus the unibuses.

Are you aware of this site

*sigh* No, I wasn't aware; thank you for pointing it out.

My spoons being in low supply today, not to mention already spoken for, off it goes to Baen.

The entire site...

The entire site is a rats nest of copyrighted stuff. Alls orts of scifi and other, and that's only under books.

I'm sure glad I posted as anonymous after writing "What is Hexapuma's have any thought about this?
Should have read "What is Hexapuma's thought about this?"
