rolanni: (The Dragon in Exile)

EDITED TO ADD: Thread frozen; I have my answers.  Thanks to everyone for being willing to help!

There has been a call for a(n updated) Liaden Dictionary.  I have located in my files a longish list of words that ought to get us started, but I don't have context for some of the words, and have come up empty guessing which book they must appear in (or they're there, but the search engine in my word processor passes them by -- this has happened before; the in-Libre search does not like apostrophes interrupting its words).

So!

Who can get me references -- that would be book and search phrase -- for the following:

a'trezla
balent'i kalandon
balent'i tru'vad
lazenia spandok
lisamia keshoc
palesci modassa
prethliu
tra'sia volectava'netra
Valcon Berant'a
Valcon Melad'a

rolanni: (Clan Korval's Tree and Dragon)
Steve and I have been doing this for a long time, and we're name-droppers.  From time to time, we drop names of characters you haven't seen yet.  We do this (1) in print and (2) in conversation.  Sometimes, we forget what we've said.

So! For the gratitude of confused authors:  Can anybody tell us the name of Val Con and Miri's daughter?

Warning: May contain spoilers for Carousel Tides.

I’d been meaning to get into That File Cabinet Down There for a while now, to look for something I’ll tell you about later. I found what I was looking for, and also a Vixen the Slayer t-shirt, which I wasn’t necessarily looking for, but not not looking for, either.

I also found, the first outline — no. The first jotted down notes and concepts for the book that became Carousel Tides, which I reproduce here, as an Exercise.

    Ocean
    Carousel
    Cat/Tiger
    Dragon
    Drug Runners
    Selkies
    Goose Rocks
    Stratton Island
Kite store run by Chinese family (water dragon)
    Keltic Knot [roller coaster]

*The selkies base is Stratton Island

*The dragon’s secret is on Goose Rocks

*The drug runners are using the selkies to transport the dope. The prince of the selkies is a friend of the Dragon’s who has fallen out with her over — something

*The Dragon isn’t interested in the drug runners until they kill someone under her protection

*The Tiger is the new kid on the block of whom the Dragon is both suspicious & attracted

the fire in 1969 started in the merry-go-round at the entrance to the old pier July 18 1969

And now, to the sofa!

This one's a little different, and for those who have serious time on their hands.

LiveJournal tells me that Eagles Over the Kennebec -- that's this blog, right here -- has been online since March 17, 2004. Which counts as a Good Long While, during which it has amassed a prodigious archive. Now, most of those archived entries are going to be cat-blogging, or lists of books read, or PSAs, notes about the weather and the day-job. But. Some few of them were actual essays of possible continuing informational and/or amusement value.

I need pointers/links to those examples of Deathless Prose.

I realize that I'm asking for subjective choices, and that one woman's entertainment is another's OhPLEASE! -- but that's OK; the field's wide open. Find and link as many entries as you like, be it writing rant, funny story, or slice-of-life.

Easy enough, eh?

Go for it.

Somewhere -- and I think it's a chapter head, which may narrow things down -- there is a quotation from a beam message to the Delm of Korval saying something along the order of, "Left my ring at X in exchange to repairs. Send one of ours to redeem it. Send two."

First one to find that quote wins the gratitude of an author!

Who can find the location of Surebleak? I'm looking for a system designation, sector name, street address -- whatever.

First one to find it receives the Public Gratitude of an, err, Grateful Author.

Edited to Add: The pertinent passage (in I Dare) has been found. Thanks!

I need the description of Korval's Ring -- the *real* Ring. I'm thinking of the scene where Val Con shows it to Miri and asks her to commit it to memory.
