Today, I slept in until the time I would be eating breakfast on a day-job kinda day, which was something, but was not 10 a.m.  Steve made us coffee with egg-cheese-and-tomato sandwiches on toast for breakfast, which did a pretty good job of reconciling me to the fact of being awake.

After breakfast, it was a trip into town to sign Saltations for the folks whose books have gone wandering, then a wander through Marden’s, and the long way home, via China, to a Labor Day picnic lunch of hot dogs and potato salad.

And then to work.

The second, recompiled, but still not complete draft of Ghost Ship has been printed out, my red pens are sharpened and my sticky tags in bright! neon! colors are to hand.  I actually need a solid week of peace and quiet to do the deep edit, but I’m not gonna get it.  *makes note to self to make notes to self*  Editing in two or three hour lumps after coming home from the screaming insanity that is the first week of school is not, I feel, optimum, but it’s what I’ve got.

For those who have been following along at home, the Carousel Tides page has been updated with Chapters Six, Seven, Eight, and Nine, in celebration of Labor Day.

And!  Mozart reminds me that I need to sort through the Saltation letters that have come in over the weekend, then do the dishes and get some lunch on the table.  For tomorrow?

Is a day-job kinda day.

Hope all who celebrate had a grand holiday!

Hoping for you to have some solid time for finishing the draft of Ghost Ship. Fraid next holiday is Halloween. Not much vacation time then I guess. At my house we did as little labor as possible. Made easier by various power outages as our power cooperative struggled valiently with something that needed new parts the company told me. Had to unplus my UPS battery which otherwise makes really annoying four beeps every minute. Electricity here fluctuates a lot so have to have surge protector even on my TV system. Our power comes in great part from the Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado over in AZ. Gus sends barks. Sorry he missed those hot dogs.

That's "unplug" of course. Wishing you good luck with your editing. C/

I do hope your wrist is back to normal. The first day of school can put a lot of stress on it (as I remember from 30 yeas of first days).

Jeez, I'm not allowed to slug anybody :)

I have the brace with me, but so far, so good. Thanks for the good wishes.

I am never certain where the days of summer go. I do know I spent days grousing over the number of 90 degree days we suffered through in New York. (believe the count was over 30.)
Then this weekend saw the students moving into their residences (Columbia Univ) which is another marker of the end of summer.
My sympathy having to return to the 'day-job.' September always seems the time when reality intervenes.

Hurrah! I have been checking almost every day to see if a new chapter was up, and you put 4 of them up at once! I tried really, really hard just to read one today. Read all of them anyway and want more, yes more. Fantastic story, which is what I expect from you both, of course. Thank you for the Labor Day present, and take care of your wrist please. KathyF
