Quite some while ago, I took "Girl," which was at that point in history a required course, failed, and never retook it. Yes, I have lived most of my adult life with an Incomplete on my record, though in practical terms, it matters about as much as calculus, another skill I managed never to acquire. Mostly, I get along fine without both, but occasionally my lack of Feminine Wiles(tm) catches me up, as it has now.

I have purchased a very nice shirt to wear to the book launch (here's a picture). When it arrived, I tried it on, decided that I liked it very much, that it did fit, and hung it up on a hangar. It turns out that this is not how I ought to be treating this kind of fabric, but I'm at a loss as to what else to do. If I fold it up and put it away with my t-shirts, the tie is going to get crushed, and the whole thing will likely get crumpled, and -- sigh.

Suggestions on how to store this thing until its hour in the sun arrives -- and after, assuming the party falls (just a little) short of Inspiring the Bards?

Abundant Spanish Aunts.

It's a knit, yes? I'd buy one of those swanky padded hangers, because you're right, even a knit top like that will eventually take creases if it's left folded for extended periods.

Also, it's very pretty. :)

Fancy padded hanger in my future. For tonight, a top-coat hanger swathed in tissue paper seems to be doing the thing right.

Also, it's very pretty. :)

It is, isn't it? And it feels Really Nice.

Fabric that feels nice cannot be overvalued. I look at all of these knits made of synthetics that aren't soft, and think, Why on earth would someone want to put that next to her skin? It's harsh and scratchy. Ugh.

I think some people just don't have nerve endings in their skin.

Back when I used to help out in the coat check at the Opera House, there was a guy who had a full length mink coat...with chinchilla lining...Helen and I never did figure out a polite way of asking if we could roll in his coat.

*mmhmm mink on the outside for looks, chinchilla on the inside for feel*

Have you tried modal bedsheets?

Seriously! I don't know how else designers get away with selling scratchy fashions.

I prefer cotton bedsheets. Higher thread count, the better. They seem to last longer that way.

Mmmm!

Sandwashed silk pajamas...now if they'd just make them with soft side in and smooth side out.

All my sheets now are modal...amazingly soft and supple, and much cheaper than 400 thread count cotton. (Bed Bath & Beyond's PureBeech brand)...comforter covers are still HTC cotton.

Back when I was still in Baltimore, I worked for a woman (a Maine native, by coincidence) whose winter coat was sealskin - made with the skin on the outside, and the fur on the inside. She thought the folks who wore their coats fur out were Completely Daft, because How Could You Stay Warm *that* Way? And besides, when it snowed, the fur got wet...

In SF, that coat was pure heatstroke!

Is that Trolleypup, late of the Longhair LJ group? If so, I've missed your photos. LJ is a small place sometimes.

I haven't posted photos in a while myself. But I do comment once in a blue moon.

Your photos not only had wonderfully long hair, but lovely locations! I was always happy to see a post from you.

LJ is a great place for crossing paths with people.

I'm slightly more active on LHC.

Than thank you.

I stopped looking at sheet sets with wonderful prints because they were likely to be under 200 thread count, and the worst blend possible of polycotton. I stick to dull, boring solid colors in 400+ thread count. Those do not make me uncomfortable lying on them!

Ahh, yes, the pretty 150 grit polycotton. I have found nice prints in HTC (cotton, and one time, silk (although, ka-ching)), but my long term preference is for solids...so lots of dark blue here.

I've never felt silk was comfortable enough to my hand to trust its comfort next to my skin, thus avoiding the cost!
