Dear Friends of Liad.

As some of you know, Steve has been in the hospital since Sunday evening with pneumonia.  While the doctors were doing their various things, it was also discovered that his heart muscle is. . .weak, which we’ll be dealing with after the pneumonia has been run out of town.  The current situation is that Steve must maintain a normal-within-tolerances temperature for X readings in a row before the hospital will release him to home and rest.  I hope to spring him tomorrow; Friday at the very latest.

The above means that there will not – that’s NOT – be a Yule chapbook this year.  I had said “perhaps there won’t be a Yule chapbook” in another venue — possibly over in the Bar? — and I want to now make this definitive.  We apologize, and are sorry to break with tradition.  We do each have a story that we were planning to write, and hope to do a Liaden Universe® chapbook early in 2011, but for the moment our lives are about divesting ourselves of as much stress as possible, and getting some room to breathe.

Speaking to that, those who shop the SRM internet store will note that orders are not being accepted at this time.  Orders placed before we turned the store off are going to be indefinitely delayed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please feel free to share this.

Edited to add: In answer to a question posed in email (because if one person is thinking it, others are):  Yes! the Carousel Tides book launch is on as scheduled.

Steve's health is your work just now. Is your hospital a large medical center?

Health and sanity always comes first and anything you can do to ensure that must take priority. Best wishes to Steve again and I'm glad you seem to be getting all the necessary information that was lacking earlier.

Deal with your life - chapbooks can wait. It was kind and thoughtful of you to tell everyone, but geez, lady, we all just want Steve to get healthy again! And that means *you* need to concentrate on him and you, not our expectations.

May he recover quickly and thoroughly. And you get a chance to sleep, somewhere in there.

I'm willing to be money that ALL of us who are your fans would much rather have a healthy Steve than have another chapbook (even tho they are wonderful and we love them). Hang in there; rest as much as you can when you can. Sending best wishes your way,
Barbara in Texas

Focus on Steve. You are both in my prayers. (It seems my 'prayers for the sick' list keeps getting longer even though people are getting better and getting off it. It's filling faster than I can clear it.)
Very best wishes and I'm expecting to appear at the book launch. Jeanne T

You're doing the Right Thing. The time you and Steve devote to his now, will pay off handsomely in the future. It can't be done at any other time.

Maybe we'll write YOU a chapbook...

Healthy eating?

I'll have to send you the recipe for heart-healthy chocolate cake: un-frosted (which is our favorite way to eat it, it's moist) it has zero eggs, zero dairy products, zero cholesterol. And at least around our house, zero leftovers; it makes a little 8x8 snack size cake that's perfect for a small family.

Oh, yeah. Zero mixer, zero fuss, and can be made either in one bowl or directly in the pan. It's a definite winner.

Sending good wishes for Steve's recovery, and for you to maintain your health as well. De-stress as you need to; we all understand the demands of real life events.

You mean Wacky Cake? That lovely Depression Era recipe?

Some of the best cake out there! I make mine with Ghirardelli chocolate, and it tastes every bit as rich as other chocolate cakes (and people are shocked to learn it's not horrible for them).

I can only echo what has already been said -- that Steve's health and the continued sanity of both of you is much more important than the Yule chapbook.

Continuing to send healing thoughts and positive energy your way.

Get Steve healthy!

My best wishes for a speedy and full recovery for Steve. I greatly prefer a healthy Steve, even over a delicious chapbook. I can be patient. So hopefully Steve will soon stop being one - a patient that is.

Let me join the chorus saying the story I most want to hear is how Steve recovered quickly and thoroughly, and how you both found yourselves healthy, and happy, and fully restored.

Especially if there are cats involved. :-)

I would much rather see a healthy and happy Steve with a healthy and happy Sharon this winter than have a chap book. So I would like to have that as my Xmas gift from the two of you.

Hope Steve can leave the hospital on Friday.

Didn't know about a Yule tradition of chapbooks. I didn't notice the dates. So I'm oblivious. All we want for Christmas is a healthy Steve!

Message to Hexapuma: Hang in there kitty. Steve's coming home soon.
We all here are crossing fingers and paws for a speedy recovery.

Here are wishes of a complete recovery in the time that is needed. While I will miss the Yuletide chapbook,I much rather (and all your fans I think will agree)have Steve healthy and both you feeling sane!!!

Take care of yourself while you help Steve recover. Keep on those Drs! Make them explain in ever day English what is going on!!! (Needless to say - past experience)

Many healing thoughts sent Steve (and your) way.

Regards,
Laurie

Best wishes for a swift recovery

Absolutely agree - get well soon wishes to Steve, don't worry about anything else. Plan for a healthy and relaxed holiday. And while the initial diagnosis is always scary, it is amazing what medicine can do for heart problems these days - my two parents have different heart issues and they both manage very well and have for many years so far.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Sharon, I'm so sorry to hear that Steve is still in the hospital. May he be home quickly.

As for the chapbook, divesting yourself of stress is an excellent idea, and anyone who doesn't support your decision is being a poopyhead.

Now, go get some rest--or calm--in whatever way works best for you.

sending healthy energy to Steve hoping he will be home soon as the best story we all could have for christmas would be that he is completly recovered.

In the scales balancing chapbook and Steve's health, although it will be missed, the chapbook must lose. I just wanted to add my "get well soon" wishes to the others.

Kind of you to tell us --

-- but all we really want for the holidays is you and Steve feeling top notch once again. I hope you can balance his health, your work, and polishing your next manuscript due, since I am sure the college hasn't closed for the season yet! Don't worry about anything else.

Wish excellent tea and stupendous chocolate could cure this....
