My, aren't we an experienced and well-read bunch of folk! Thanks to everyone who responded to yesterday's Idle Query -- and give yourselves a hand!

Today, is the Thirtieth Anniversary of Steve and Sharon got married! (They did what?) I have cleverly caught a cold, but we still hope to have a quiet celebratory dinner out this evening.

In between, there's bookkeeping, and story-sketching (my brain was busy reviewing all I know about a Certain Subject all last night, which made for some...entertaining dreams), and cat-scribbling, and yanno, The Usual.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Happy Anniversary! May you have many more happy years together.

Today, I'm watching the leaves fall and reading Carousel Tides. There's also a Holiday Bazaar this weekend, and I'll be shopping for some Christmas presents.

Congrats on 30!

Weekend plans? That would be work. 4p-1a tonight and 2p-10p Sunday. Ugh.

Although given that Sat/Sun will be the entire week this week (coming off a week of vacation and my weekend is Mon/Tue) it doesn't sting too much. Also, I should (if I don't goof off all morning) be able to continue on projects I've been tacklingdesultorily poking at lately.

Right now, I'm nursing a bit of a hangover (changes music away from the Bruckner 5th) joyfully earned while showing newbies a good time at Ebisu.

Isn't Ebisu a beer?

I'm confused. Here in Japan, I think of Ebisu as a beer. One might introduce newbies to it, but not at it?

And a god of prosperity...

In the US, the beer is spelled "Yebisu", Ebisu, in this case, refers to a sushi bar/restaurant in SF with a (IMHO) well-deserved reputation for being the crack cocaine of sushi bars...it only takes one dose to get them addicted.

You're right, although I tend to confuse them. Yebisu the beer and Ebisu the god. And now it makes sense. Thanks!

Happy Anniversary and many happy returns for both of you.

We're celebrating Bonfire Night - the anniversary of Guy Fawkes Gunpowder Plot with family and friends. There are fireworks for the grandchildren to watch, my daughter is making those traditional English dishes of Pepperoni Chilli and Bolognese with a choice of baked potato, pasta twirls, rice or tortilla chips (or any combination of) and my son and daughter in law are bringing the mystery dessert.

I'm sitting anticipating.

'Grats!

And a big one, too, 30 years!

Today, we went shopping for beer, bottom-shelf vodka and good rum, spices, sweaters, and used books. And cheese. Tonight and tomorrow is writing and making pumpkin pie! Nom!

Congratulations! Wow, is it really a year since you said it would be your 30th "next year"? I guess it is, that was at the Worldcon in Montréal.

What am I doing? Getting pissed. Oh, for transpondians that's 'drunk', not 'angry'. 500ml of Henry Weston's 2009 vintage cider, at 8.2%ABV, gets me decidedly non-sober. And watching Fringe and eating 2/3 of a pizza (the rest will make breakfast tomorrow).

Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we diet...

Happy Anniversary, and very best wishes for many more. Feel better, have a lovely glass of wine and enjoy dinner. What am I doing? The day has been relatively productive; I bottled the last batch of beer I brewed, and started another, so my husband is happy and will be happier. Other than that, just wishing the clouds would go away, and looking forward to regaining the hour of sleep stolen from me last spring!

Allow me to add my "Happy Anniversary"to the crowd's...

I'm working, hosting authors and musicians this weekend, but it's
fun. Ooo, latest quote is, "I said, 'Really? You couldn't have tuned first? It's not chinese opera!'"

snicker,

Congrats on the anniversary and hopefully many more.

I'm at the CFA cat show at the Gwinnett Convention Center in Atlanta, GA, with 5 red/red w/white Maine Coon kittens and having a blast with my friends and spectators alike. We'll do it again tomorrow, from 10-3, if anybody is in the area and likes cats! :)

Happy Anniversary!!!

We spent most of today at a birthing class, and then worked on beating the kitchen into shape....still in progress. Tomorrow should be a lazier day with church stuff and cooking.

Happy Anniversary! kay_gmd pretty well summed up my weekend as well, though I did read Carousel Tides in between her appointments. Another very well-done book, I really enjoyed reading the electronic copy, and our local bookstore's got a physical one on order for us.

My plans for the weekend involved being away from home and internet, so this answer is retrospective.

I spent the weekend out of town for a Vietnam Veterans' reunion. I'm not a veteran myself (as you know if you've read my response to the Idle Query, I was too young), but as a consequence of knowing a guy who knows a guy, I was involved in providing musical entertainment.

On the trip to and from, and in spare moments in between, I read John Scalzi's Old Man's War series. (I also took, but didn't end up reading, Gene Wolfe's Soldier of the Mist. These were selected arbitrarily out of the set of Books That Have Been In The To-Read Pile Too Long, and it didn't occur to me until much later that there might be considered to be a theme going.)

The unplanned portion of the weekend included a nasty cold, with coughing, sneezing, dripping, sandpaper throat, and mucus in a variety of intriguing colours. I seem to have survived.

I will take this as a Sign that I, too, will survive.

What did you think of Old Man's War?
