In which Rolanni has candy

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions of things to read; if life were otherwise, I'd do nothing but order in books and curl up on the sofa for the next four or five years. So much to choose from.

The filter in this case is the popular book holdings of Miller Library. I was very sorry that they haven't got Kerry Greenwood, which really plucked my "oh, they sound like the thing" chord.

However, I have here on my desk a satisfying haul, based in part on your input:

I also want to thank all those who submitted suggestions. I turned up a completely different list of delectables than Rolanni. I enjoyed reading _Quarter Share_ (kindle version) last night, and have plans to hunt down the Detective Inspector Chen series (not available in eBooks.)

Baen Webscriptions lists Liz Williams as an author but then doesn't find any books by her. The first four of the Chen books were published by Night Shade, I don't know what's happened to them now but the next two are booked to be published by Morrigan. As far as I know none of them are currently available in electronic format at all, except that she is making some short stories in that universe available by direct subscription (see her post here (http://mevennen.livejournal.com/810475.html?style=mine) but note that she said there that maximum subscriptions were almost reached).

Turns out Night Shade didn't have rights in hand to sell ebooks of the Chen series. So that is why she is listed but they are no longer available. Here is the link about the problem she had http://mevennen.livejournal.com/777134.html

Oh wow, a Donald Westlake Dortmunder book. I mourned Mr. Westlake's passing and did not hear about an addition to the series. I love those books. Drowned Hopes is a comic masterpiece!

Yes, the Dortmunder books are great fun. I have the whole series, though a few of them took some hunting to find.

Can you not get an inter-library loan for Kerry Greenwood? Phryne is just so much fun, with a capital "F".

Could. But interlibrary loan comes with a deadline, and I can't just take a day off to read a book anymore. Mind you, the books I just got from Miller also come with a deadline -- but that's a year out. I can read these in a year, but I can't read any of them by Tuesday.

You might try your public library for the Kerry Greenwood.

A friend in Melbourne just went to Kerry's latest book launch and got *me* the newest book, and its set in Egypt! (still waiting for the postman here though)

I've read the first few by Rowland and they are very entertaining.

Do you think the cats would be open to a christmas gift of some Kerry Greenwood? I would be very happy to send you a couple. I think it may go some way to achieving the Balance owed for the pleasure your books have given me over the years...

The cats are always interested in books, I fear. Because, when I do read, I sit in the same place for a Long Time, which is, as you know, a Cat Win.

Maybe you'd like to set up something like an Amazon wishlist that could be shared with your fans, so that if they wished to purchase a book as a gift for you, they'd get one you want? (I have a wishlist for myself but I don't share it, so I don't know the particulars of how that works.) Just a suggestion.

Sorry. I seem to be reading non fiction at the moment. This will not further to expand your view for your own writing. As soon as my copy of Carousel Tides arrives from Amazon I will stop reading the two non fiction books I've been reading and read yours.
