Whatever day

Long weekends mess up my sense of what day is this, really. I’ve been thinking all day that it’s Sunday, but, no! It turns out that today? Is Saturday. It’s like being given a whole extra day, free of charge.

Whatever its name, today was slightly fragmented. I did finally finish the filing, except for the small mountain of galleys and turned-in manuscripts that I feel compelled to keep, but have no place to file. Well. There’s a file cabinet in the basement. I think there may be a spot of spelunking in my future.

I’ve started work on my next book*, which sadly has no title. For the purposes of discussion, this book shall, until such time as a Proper Title presents itself, be referred to as The Book Presently Known As George.

There’s been some discussion of taking in an early movie tomorrow. The local Flagship, in a un-looked-for fit of randomosity, is showing not one, but three! movies that we could view with interest: Burlesque, RED, and Harry Potter Part One of Two. All things being equal, I expect we’ll go with Potter.

Everybody having a fine and fun-filled weekend? What are y’all up to? Finished shopping? Tell all.

Progress on The Book Presently Known as George:
2,187 words/100,000 OR 2.19% complete

Currently trying to establish why neither laptop will speak to the router, and enjoying the magnificent November weather in Perth. Also enjoying the mental image of you with ropes, pitons, boots with cleats and a helmet with a lamp, traversing the Cat Farm & Confusion Factory stairs in search of the Filing Cabinet In the Basement - a book title for Roald Dahl, if only he were still with us. Good news on TBCKAG, too.

Sorry, that should be TBPKAG. Not good to get your presents and your currents mixed up, is it?

Haven't even started shopping, sigh. Have just finished eating Turkey Stew with Dumplings (night 17 of the Twenty Two Nights of Turkey).

Mostly, am really, really trying to get the newsletter out for my volunteer ski patrol. Had it ready on Tuesday except for one last critical article coming from someone else...who actually set the deadline of tuesday past but then couldn't meet it himself. Can't go away from the phone and email for long enough to shop until we get the darn newsletter OUT!

I think I'll go look for another turkey recipe for tomorrow...

For what it's worth, my wife and I quite enjoyed RED, even though she is generally not an Action! Adventure! Flick! type of person. It brought back fond memories of the wonderful Walter Matthau / Glenda Jackson film "Hopscotch".

I loved RED also (SO much fun watching the old agents kick butt!)
"Hopscotch", eh? Methinks I may try to look that up *makes note*

Chiming in for both - LOVED watching RED, will definitely buy the video. And? will look for Hopscotch in Netflix - anything with Glenda Jackson is usually worth a look, and if it's anything like RED it must be really good!

Winter has made a sudden appearence here in the South (shorts were worn on Thanskgiving Day, today not so much) and the day job thought someone should be on duty to keep the staff out of trouble and apparently my name was at the top of the list. I realize George has not seen fit to provide a proper name, but has he hinted as yet as to what the book might be about?

Glad to see that Steve seems to be on the mend. Take care of yourself as well.

Spent part of the day sorting and paying bills due in December. Then filled out forms to get reimbursements from my Flexible Spending account for money spent on doctors' visits. Need to get them faxed on Monday, so hopefully the money will arrive before Christmas.

Spent the remainder of the day spoiling / brushing Alexei & Sergei, my 2 Siberian cats. They are shedding and trying to put on a semblance of a winter coat. Not that 2 totally indoor cats in Florida really need any type of winter coat.

My husband and I are watching "Red" on Sunday, giving the holiday weekend "you take the kids to the movies while I shop" crowd a chance to get their fill of "Harry Potter". Until New Year's is past, we'll skip the just-released movies and go with the 'old hat as of last weekend' ones. I hate crowds. :)

what the book might be about

Must be "Tentative Title #2" See: Infodump on 11/17/10

At one point you offered to describe how you and Steve work on a book together once the big crunch was over. That would be so interesting to hear . . . whenever you're so inclined and if it's not too much trouble.

I am tickled for you that you are making some reading/couch/cat time for yourself. Peace and joy to you both.

Shopping for the grandkids is done -- they're easy. Got my sister a gooseneck lighted magnifying glass for her marquetry, and have purchased a few other small things for friends. Just need to decide on Bob's and the kid's (the grandkids' parents) gifts and I'll be done. I only shop online now because I can't do the walking any longer. Thank goodness for teh intertubes.

Best of luck with TBPKAG -- a fine name for the interim and one I am fond of since George was my father's name.

All of your movie choices seem good. Cami & I are going to see Burlesque today (my, my it is Sunday already). We've seen both Harry Potter and Red and give them both thumbs up. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

Congratulations on starting "George", I also had a father named George.

I spent the day struggling to get out my winter clothes. I was hoping for a mild winter but no...snow on the ground a few days ago got me going. That means putting away the T shirt collection.
Then off to the movies. Saw The Social Network which was imo very good. Yesterday saw Harry Potter part 1 of the last one. Was disapointed. Very long and very black. Could have been a bit shorter at least.
Gus was very pissed off all day because I wouldn't let him into my extra room or my bedroom which had heaps of clothes everywhere. He likes to supervise.
C. I'm shivering. Gus is not being a sturdy dog of Chinese origin with at thick coat.

Wondering if the book now known as George is the book based on Surebleak.. and if that's the book you wanted to write anyway. I hope so. Steve being in the hot seat for Dragon Ship. Now that's interesting.

If showing locally, you might want to add "Next Three Days" to your movie possibles list. Not what I had expected from the ads, but very good, with a touch of "The Sting".

Forgot to say, Harry Potter won the vote for Thanksgiving weekend movie here. I thought it quite good at condensing a LOT of material into cohesiveness and the Ministry of Magic part was very well handled.

Also spent part of the weekend helping Mom get her shopping done on Friday - amazing, the difference between Black Friday in Reading PA and Los Angeles! Going out after 1 pm, the mall just finally seemed to have a reasonable number of people in it! I'm told it was kind of crazy in the early AM, but it was certainly gone by the time we went out, thank goodness!

I name many things George - the Wildebeast that slept below the balcony of our room at Animal Kingdom Lodge, my excercise ball.... it is a Good Name.
