Now that you've read a Rumpole, treat yourself to watching the Rumpole TV series. I though Leo McKern really nailed Rumpole and the continuing supporting cast was uniformly excellent. And treat yourself to a glass of 'Chateau Thames Embankment' while you watch.
(Of course, I may be preaching to the choir, as it were.....)

I didn't actually like the Rumpole that much. It was OK, in terms of having words that made sense and flowed more-or-less along in front of one's eyes, and the mystery was engaging. But the whole business with Rumpole's wife and her lover and reading for the law, and the politics of his office were. . . annoying. Not annoying enough that I put the book I was reading down, but annoying enough that I'll probably not go out of my way to find another.

After I posted my comment, I realized that I had watched Rumpole and quite enjoyed it BEFORE I actually read any of the books. It does make a difference, as we all know.
At least now you know that John Mortimer's Rumpole is not quite your cuppa.

I noticed you read the Crusie. My all-time favorite of hers is "Faking It," about a family with an art gallery and a bunch of secrets. I hope you liked Strange Bedpersons enough to try another
Crusie sometime when you're into pure light-hearted humorous romance.

PS I just finished Josephine Tey's The Singing Sands. The most funny
Tey I've ever, ever read. Note - it's Scottish humor so it's drier
than single malt. The mystery was decent but the humor surprised.
