The child was born to be sacrificed, I guess is their point. It takes a bit to raise a sacrifice up proper...

They make pandora apps for the iphone and the android. Can you run them and shunt the output to your car's stereo?

You'd still have to be in range of the internet though . . .

Pandora in the car (http://blog.pandora.com/faq/contents/10012.html)

I seem to remember [livejournal.com profile] kinzel commenting on the fact that iPhone reception was not to be had in their local area.

You could still hook up your iPod (if you have one) to the car stereo, though, [livejournal.com profile] rolanni! Or, do you have a CD or tape player?

I have the app and an earpiece, but we live...outside the cloud.

Do you have an mp3 player? If so, you can buy a cassette tape thingie that attaches to it and plays through the tape deck. I'm using one from iMonster, iirc. It works well, but I can't leave it in Kuro overnight when it's cold because the sound is terrible until it warms up.

I am assuming you have a cassette player in Argent. It's usually the default, but I'm not sure these days.

Steve and Sharon live in Rural Maine. If it's anything like Rural New York, I would expect that they drive in and out of 3g coverage all the time as they travel over hill and down dale. (Who is Dale, anyway? :)

I found that mobile internet, and even cell service was very frustrating in the hill country up near Salem, NY where my parents live.

Williams is former Miss America who lost her title when nude photos surfaced; she played the witchy ex-model magazine editor Wilhelmina Slater in Ugly Betty; she joined Desperate Housewives this year.

Yep, that's her.

At first I thought it was Vanessa R Williams, the gospel singer, who did the song.

...Ah! These are television shows. Now that you mention, the Miss-America-nude-photo-thing strikes a distant bell. Not enough, mind you, that I actually remembered that particular Ms. America's name, or to have any idea that she was also a singer. Cultural literacy, I have it not.

The song has it's own write up at Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary%27s_Boy_Child
I didn't know that it might be the only popular Christmas carol written by a black songwriter. You'd think with the number of black gospel writers and singers there would be more.

You'd think so. And not written all that recently, either. Dern song's almost as old as I am.

When Ms. Williams started releasing recordings, one of her early songs was "Save the Best for Last", which is one of my favorite songs. I had a hard time finding the CD at the record store when it came out, because they classified her as a blues singer, not a pop-rock singer.

I've stopped listening to Satellite Radio for the season, since every station seems to be weaving Extraneous Season-Specific Music into it's programming.

My music player full of songs, set on shuffle, will have to get me through to January. About 2,200 songs.

Wasn't Vanessa Williams the beauty queen who won Miss America but then was disqualified for being naughty afterwards? We can look her up if we are so inclined.

As for the sacrifice. ....here I go being a bit boring and I'm sure you know this... sacrifice was at the heart of a lot of most of old religions of the Old and New World in the bad old days. Animal sacrifice and human sacrifice. So Jesus being crucified was interpreted as being a sacrifice afterwards to fit in with the general belief system. The only difference was this particular sacrifice, his followers claimed, rose from the dead and appeared to said followers. None of the others did that or claimed to do that. So this event called attention to itself. Of all the mystery religions running around the Middle East at the time the only one that really became a success and took off was Christianity. There you go.....That said. Merry Christmas.
