Well, so. Steve ventured out into the snow showers early to mail the marked up galleys of Korval’s Game back to North Carolina. I stayed home and updated the welcome page here at Sharon Lee, Writer, and dithered around the house, trying to figure out where the story was kinked.
Steve returned home, bearing birdfood, and I filled up the feeders, with him spotting me for the one that requires an over-the-head-stretch to set back on the pole (not a recommended placement).
(Finally) Figured out where the kink was, and talked it over with Steve when we met for dinner. Then, after dinner got down to it.
I wrote about 1400 words today, but the numbers aren’t going to reflect that, because I cut 800 (which I may use later), retaining 900+ for the new! improved! narrative.
The flow is much better now. Of course, now I’ve got three viewpoints weaving one plot, which is ambitious for a short piece, but the lazy way wasn’t working.
Now, we’re going to both knock off, watch a movie and relax.
Tomorrow, back to the word mines.

Date: 2011-01-29 11:11 pm (UTC)FWIW I also got a bunch canned catfood for Hex, bagged in sub 5 lb increments along with snack for the other guys. And a mixed six pack of nonalcoholic beer (not from the Agway, I admit), mostly in exchange for bags of empties ... I carried the bags in 1 at a time, except for the one Sharon collared 3 or 4 at a time....
It all adds up

Some are ok -- low power -- some are definitely not. I got used to patting my chest and smiling as I wiggled my way around the outside of the gate.
So... did they decide to abandon the effort to keep Steve out of the driver's seat? That problem puzzled me, because Steve didn't have syncope or other symptoms (that we heard about, anyway) before the device was implanted. I did -- repeatedly -- and although I was told not to drive after diagnosis (Thursday morning) until after surgery (Monday morning), no one ever mentioned any six-month waiting period. Very strange-- same state, same surgery, two years' difference in time.

The discharge nurse was adamant on the point that Steve's license *would be* suspended. We questioned her closely, since this was the first time we'd heard of it. When Steve said that it was going to make it hard to drive to Chattanooga next January, she immediately reassured us that, no, that would probably be fine. And then said, if Steve had been a trucker or someone else who lived by the steering wheel, he'd be out of a job.
The discharge papers also have a section explaining that it was our responsibility to notify the Motor Vehicle Administration that the device had been implanted and that they would make a Determination.
I'm thinking that the nurses had A Seminar and that these instructions are good for 98 percent of the folks they care for. Steve being, as ever the exception.

Date: 2011-01-30 03:35 pm (UTC)Will you be selling books? I would like to pick up Fledgling and Saltation in hardcover (as I plan to get Korval's Game in May and be all caught up on the present-day timeline of the Liaden Universe, and ready to start Theo's adventures).
I should also have more books for you to sign!

Hope they get there quickly - and thanks!

PS I think I hooked another reader with Conflict of Honors...He likes non-military sci fi and
loved the last batch I sent him home with, so he
said, Give Me More. Heh. I love that. Conflict
of Honors went into that second stack.
