All righty, then!

Last night, we discovered that neither of the disks we had in from Netflix actually worked in the DVD player of my computer.  Whether this is DVD player fail, or DVD fail remains to be seen.  Still, we were in the mood to watch a movie, dern it, so we went out onto the intertubes and streamed “My Man Godfrey” straight out of Netflx Central.

The streaming worked a treat; the movie, despite my deep and abiding adoration of William Powell — not so much.  I don’t see why a perfectly sensible man ought to be stuck with an empty-headed screwball just because she loves him – but that’s probably just me.  I think he’d done perfectly fine with Molly, if the plot demanded romantic closure, a point of which I am doubtful.

Today, I filled out my Worldcon panelist survey.  Truly, I am made of energy and crunchy goodness.  I also made rice to serve as the base for day-job lunches throughout the coming week and did a bit of work on “Intelligent Design.”

I tried mightily, and failed equally so, to design a t-shirt at Cafepress, which aggravates me much more than it’s probably worth, but enough to ask — if you sell t-shirts on the internet, and you don’t use Cafepress, what do you use?

For those who keep count, tomorrow’s Monday, and hereabouts the weatherbeans are calling for cold.  Also, I have no window washer left in my car and I can’t get the hood open, though it reports that it’s unlocked.  Tomorrow’s drive to the day-job will therefore be Fraught With Peril.

Note to self: Laugh at Peril.

Next on the list here is doing the dishes, which I shall undertake immediately upon saying g’night to y’all, and then a wee bite of lunch.

Progress on “Intelligent Design”
3,072 out of 10,000 words OR 30.72%

G’night.

I gave up trying to design at shirt at Cafe Press several years ago. It was a bunch of park icons for hiking, cross-country skiing, fishing, etc. around these words done in a chalk outline font: FIND YOUR BODY AT LEAKIN PARK. But I suspect there's a mighty small market for it, and they might not appreciate the humor at a Friends of Leakin Park fundraiser.

You are a bad, evil woman. In the nicest possible way.

Thank you for the links!

I have a CafePress shop (http://www.cafepress.com/KatsKats)but I just upload my own designs (re icons). Do you know anything about the quality/prices at these? Of course I'd want a place that did more than shirts.

Oh, and on the hood thing?? Getting that resolved would be a Good Thing™! I had just gotten my first car and on the third day I had it I was driving across a bridge in the left hand lane. Fortunately all of the lanes were deserted, because suddenly the hood of the car in front of me came off. I swerved, it hit my windshield just right of center, bounced off and landed three lanes away in the shoulder. Good thing I was 26 or I might have been put off of driving for good!

Of the above, my husband Matt has used and likes Zazzle. He likes designing wacky ties, and has figured out their system.

Does Zazzle do fulfillment? I should've said that I'm trying to get out of the fulfillment bidness.

I am not sure, but I know that [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar uses them for her art prints, as well as mugs and mousepads and tote bags and magnets...

I know she started to use them so she would not be printing and mailing her prints. She posted about them recently - they are currently having a sale.

saw the movie a while back & liked it -- i always thought the "empty-headed screwball" was just one of the standard portrayals of a woman in movies of that era.

after all, if the entirety of my life was one round of parties after another, with the same set of people, i'd be pretty empty-headed too...

Please please make sure your hood is fully locked closed before you drive! Speaking as a person who has had their hood fly up and crash into their windshield at 55mph, it is no fun! Press hard on the hood near the latch and try to pry it up, to be safe.

Oh god talk about your nightmares. Doing 65 on a 4 lane freeway through San Francisco and suddenly staring at hood. Just hood. I still remember the terror and trying to get off the road asking the passenger if the next lane was clear over and over as I moved from the fast lane to the shoulder.

Dvd's from Netflix won't always play on my daghter's pc. My sister said the same thing about her computer. They do play on our macs, though I rarely watch recent releases. The theory is that it's something to keep the dvd from being copied. Supposedly, there is software one can install that will then allow Netflix dvds to be played on a computer.

Hope that's what it is.

I suspect that certain brands of DVD have this problem. I think maybe twice I've had DVD's that wouldn't play on my computer but would play on a DVD player.

I've had that from Lovefilm, DVDs which will play on (some) DVD players but not on the PC. Mind you, I've also had some I could rip to hard disk on PC which wouldn't play on the DVD player or play on PC (so I played it from the hard disk and then deleted it). Sometimes it's the DVD itself (a replacement is fine), other times it seems to be an anti-copying measure.

I can't do streaming things, the net connection is too slow and intermittent.

Another option for Tshirt production is OffWorld Designs, http://www.offworlddesigns.com/ run by Barb and Ray Van Tilburg. Set up a deal with them, and you supply the art and the design (unless you want them to - they can do that too), they make and sell the Tshirts both through their website and at conventions (if they know it's going to be a good fit, like when you're there).
You can buy your shirts from them at wholesale if you need a quantity to sell yourselves somewhere.

The biggest advantage is that you have much better quality control than the print-on-demand places offer. I guess the commission might be different for different people, but the deals I've seen make them competitive with places like Cafe Press, while increasing sales since they actually do some marketing themselves.

An email comes to the address you gave them when you registered. It does take a while. I'll note that Steve and I registered at the same time and his is still to come.

I have a friend who sent her designs to Zazzle.
But those other people recommended in a comment sound smaller and nicer.

Hope you'll be able to unfreeze the hood and also get some more windsheild washer before it snows again. Time to check in with the old family garage guy. Hopefully you have one of those. I do. Ramsay Auto. I've known Nick Ramsey since 1985. He's still there but now his son Jake does a lot too. Plus about six other mechanics. Reminds me I've got to invest in new windshield washers.

If by "fulfillment" you mean can folks buy off the Zazzle web site? Yes, one can buy off the Zazzle web site. My friends' Ts were available there for sale. But....Zazzle must have somewhere you can ask them questions. I am very interested in T shirts because I collect them. If you do produce a new T please let us all know. I guess that would be the general idea anyway!

I pretty much got out of the t-shirt design biz just before cafepress and all started...if you need a shirt printed in SF I can make a great recommendation, but otherwise, not so much. All my latest shirts have been either print to gift or hand sold in small markets (as in the patrons on my regular sushi bar).

You were correct, oh guru, that Pandora.com would not be available to those of us not geographically located in the Northern Americas. This is what they had to say: "We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.". I wonder if our Canadian cousins can pick it up? Anyway, I'm sticking to http://abcdigmusic.net.au/, which I can highly recommend.

Also, no words of wisdom on the t-shirts, but I'm going to check out a few of those sites myself!
