Date: 2011-03-25 10:16 am (UTC)I hear from my faculty that some academic presses not only require the author to produce and revise their manuscript, but also to hire a copy editor, and to format the book for printing. (All this, and some of them give up their copyright, too. For royalties after the press earns its nut back.)
I had also heard, some years back, that smaller genre presses were asking their authors to format their books for the printer. I haven't heard this in a while, but I don't know if that means that it didn't work out, or that the demand has become so mundane that no one blinks.
