it's going to be one of the front page stories on the Baen website. I think Tony said summer? And they are collecting them in a Free Library volume http://www.webscription.net/p-1387-free-short-stories-2011.aspx -- note the advice that this can be freely copied and shared, but not sold. So download and print certainly seems reasonable.

Shouldn't need one for the free library stuff. And the story will be up at www.baen.com in July, I think?

Right, it'll be up on the main page, no password needed. July or August, I have to check my schedule.

Congrats on Intelligent Design going to the publisher. And yes, we would all like to know when it will be up on the Baen web site. June? July?

Yay,
C.

I'm curious...in what form does the story to the publisher? Do you send a Word file and then they convert it to something printable or do you use a special program?

Thanks,

Maureen

We send a .doc or an .rtf file to Baen, and had done likewise with Meisha Merlin. What happens to it after that, in terms of formatting, I wot not.

I hear from my faculty that some academic presses not only require the author to produce and revise their manuscript, but also to hire a copy editor, and to format the book for printing. (All this, and some of them give up their copyright, too. For royalties after the press earns its nut back.)

I had also heard, some years back, that smaller genre presses were asking their authors to format their books for the printer. I haven't heard this in a while, but I don't know if that means that it didn't work out, or that the demand has become so mundane that no one blinks.
