So, a bad week on at least three fronts, and not looking to get better anytime soon. Gah. Why does life always Happen when we have a book on deadline?

Oh, wait.

Anyhow. One step at a time. Slow and steady wins the race. Not a door closes but a window opens (yeah, says a friend; so you can throw yourself out of it). Inner calm.

I did this evening re-compile a version of Skyblaze without several egregious typos and uploaded the corrected file to both Amazon and BN. No, I don’t know what happens next, or how you get a corrected file.

I also this evening compiled Halfling Moon: Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 16 and uploaded it to both the Nook Store and the Kindle Store. I expect the listings will be along sometime this weekend.

And now, because I am Sick to Death of people (it’s nothing personal; I’m an introvert — I get sick to death of people. Being hit on the nose with a newspaper by clueless idiots does not improve this tendency, but I digress.), I am going to be scarce for the weekend. I have a lot of stuff to do that’s not going to do itself (what is with that, exactly?), so I’d best get doing. I’ll be back around on Monday — I mean, I have to go to the day-job on Monday, anyway, so I might as well have something pleasant to balance it out.

What’re you doing this weekend that’s fun?

Hit on the nose with a newspaper? I can imagine a couple of reactions to this, one being to announce that one is not a dog, snatching the paper, and whacking the clueless idiot a good one in return. Or perhaps informing them that you choose water balloons at five paces, your seconds will be calling, and the duel will be at noon tomorrow?

Or maybe, just maybe, asking if the clueless idiot would like to have their actions documented for the sexual harassment case which will be filed against them soon? This should be done with a smile for best effect. Pointing to the video camera that has just recorded the action (even if it is off) can also be effective.

I thought that kind of treatment went out with the turn of the century? Please feel free to do fun things this weekend -- there is no reason that anyone has to put up with that kind of treatment, in my opinion.

I don't know about the Nook Store, but it supposedly takes about 48 hours for the new version to trickle through all the worldwide Kindle points.

Have a lovely weekend. I'm still on tax death march, but hoping for a bit of good weekend myself...

Reading Skyblaze, it seems, the same having arrived during the week (thrice, as ordered, in a well-sealed package which managed to be fitted through the letterbox without damage). On Sunday having a Greek lesson at 10am (assuming that the teacher is awake) and then choir practice in the afternoon.

For me the weekend will/has consides/ed of:

Friday night role-playing in which the Party (including me) discovered that Windemere Island is not a safe place (when dealing with angry fae). And that Centaurs captured in the Peninsula War with Russia before their emancipation are pretty grumpy.

Saturday - careful rationing of Skyblaze, cleaning gutters, and watching bad movies.

Sunday - Kayaking on the Swan with friends.

Next week sees Swancon...

Hmm, if you're anything like me you may find it not possible to ration Skyblaze. I intended to read a chapter or two, I just finished it in one lump. And without my reading glasses on, as I can defocus the distance ones enough for a chapter, but didn't want to stop...

I know what I had to go through to get a fixed version of a Kindle e-book.

Short form - it took a couple of weeks, and ended with a 30 minute phone call. Amazon sent me a survey on my experience - they got excellent ratings for policy, and awful ratings for implementation.

Document it. In detail.

It will come in handy when you decide to go postal with said clueless idiot. Really.

If there is ever another incident . . .

Checking Amazon for Halfling Moon. Trying to finish taxes. Figuring out how to get to court to pay traffic fine w/o driving since failure to pay fine resulted in loss of license. (Should also learn to open mail). Hopefully reading Halfling Moon.

The weekend here will consist of editing as much of a 120-page working paper on Rural Sanitation and Hygiene in Vietnam as I can. And if you are muttering "Gah, that sound boring," you would be right.

It's up on Amazon

In case anyone else is checking, the Kindle edition of Halfling Moon is up on Amazon. Off to make a nice pot of tea and consume tea and words.

Aw, yay, thanks for the tip! I passed a pleasant morning reading Halfling Moon, and am now all psyched for the Book Presently Known as George. It was cool to meet the next generation of Korval; I'm excited to see what they all make of life on Surebleak!

I spent yesterday afternoon and evening glued to my county's police, fire department and emergency management Twitter and Facebook pages, to see if I would have to pack up my husband and elderly dogs and flee south. See if you can find an image of Texas that includes the current wildfires. They've burned over a quarter million acres so far, and the fire closest to me accounted for 116,000 of them. :-P

Regarding the "sick to death of people," if it helps, people immediately started bombarding the sites referenced above with offers of help, cash, water, the loan of stock trailers and acreage for refugee livestock, etc. The shelter and the humane society opened their facilities to displaced pets and the rodeo fairgrounds was designated as another location for livestock. Whereupon humane society and other volunteers began the onerous task of caring for and feeding these animals, while the local Salvation Army fed the fairground volunteers and the firefighters, who mostly came from several volunteer fire departments. Even instructors and students from our base fire school turned out. The local Walmart, Sam's and HEB (regional grocery chain) donated pallets of gatorade, water, etc, and other local businesses (even Best Buy, not normally viewed as the most altruistic company out there) were collecting supplies. *stops to take a breath, after that Faulknerian sentence*

I'm an introvert too, but it still impressed me. Now we're just hoping for rain. Or at least, for the wind to die down for a few days.

For fun I went and found the link for the Kindle for PC. My techie friend will download it for me. I'm afraid I might loose it in my computer. So...thanks Steve. I figure having the Kindle on my computer may come in handy someday.

Wishing you a nice quiet weekend.

Kindle for PC is great. I'm not one of those folks who are bothered by LCD screens, so I just put all the book-reading apps on my netbook, and I'm set to read ANYTHING :-D

Maaaannn, my sympathies. I had a Bad Meeting with the account
Friday but tried not to let it affect my mood.

Weekend-wise, we had a very fun book launch party Saturday, in and around major rainstorms. Munchies featured middle-eastern
appetizers (the book was partly set in the Middle East) so this
Sunday morning the bookstore had the lovely faint smell of tahini,
garlic, and all sorts of good spices. YUM.

Sunday is beautiful if windy and folks are walking up and down Main Street...and coming in to check out the books. If I can
ignore the impending checks I have to send Maryland and the IRS,
I can be happy today.
