rolanni: (what it's like)

Yesterday, I did lawn cleaning detail. Also, I worked in the garden. This turned out to be a Very Stupid Idea. I can either work in the garden and trash my hands and my bad shoulder or I can not work in the garden and avoid subsequent unpleasantness.

You’d really think I’d remember this, wouldn’t you? Especially given the system of reward and punishment involved. Sheesh.

In other news on the weekend, two more chapbooks have been added to the ever-growing pile on Amazon and BN — Dragon Tide: Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 13, and Certain Symmetry: AitLU Number 4. They should be showing up tomorrow-ish, I’m guessing.

This weekend also brought the happy news that there will be a mass market edition of Carousel Tides hitting bookstores early next year — February 2012, is the informed guess.

I’ve also made some small headway on the outline of my talk for Thursday, but I obviously need to make more. Should’ve done that today, but today I decided to work on George.

Those who pre-ordered, or who were waiting the release of Korval’s Game (omnibus release of Plan B and I Dare)– your patience has been rewarded. The book is shipping as I type.

And now, it’s gotten late, for values of late that include the fact of tomorrow being Monday.

What did y’all do this weekend that was cool?

Progress on the Book Presently known as George

She didn’t think she would like to see the things that Droi did, that lived around corners, and under rocks, and in the lightless place of World That Might Be.

Ooo, that quote from George sounds ominous ...

My weekend was remarkably like yours, at least in the "gardening and wrecking my hand and shoulders" department. Well, mostly just my hand. But the backyard has been mowed, the raspberries tied up, the irises rescued from a soggy death and replanted, and the trench through the shade garden from the clogged sump pump line filled in.

Over here in West Oz, we've been recovering from the 50th NatCon - Swancon 35.

This has featured many board games with friends (or fiends) from the US and The Barbarian East, lots of bad movies, and eating out. So more of the same, really, but this time with more kayaking, and less stress. And a bit more Doctor Who. To quote a FoaF "I want to be River Song when I grow up!"

Today, though (and being on leave, that means that Monday is Still The Weekend), we took our kayaks, and paddled up the Swan River some 13km to the heritage listed Tranby House, where there are Tea Rooms. And we had (GF) Scones and Tea. And then paddled back into the teeth of the sea breeze.

It has been a *great* weekend.

Whatched the Royal Wedding. Spectacular. Watched part of the Beatification mass of Pope John Paul II. Interesting. Watched via You Tube Presidents remarks at White House Press dinner. Also remarks from Stephen, was it? Myers from Saturday Night Live. Extremely funny.

Late Sunday night the news came through on CNN that Osama Ben Laden was killed by US Navy Seals. Now CNN has to go on all night from Hong Kong without much additional information. Quite a feat.

In my own life I also did some I don't know what you call it. Gathering up very dead plants which had turned into dry sticks from last summer. They went quietly into a pile.
Expecting a very busy week.

All my comments appear as if by magic. I hate computers, web sites. Takes way too much patience for me.

The Live Journal server appears to be doing periodic post updates instead of immediate post updates recently. Maybe LJ trying to skim on broadband usage.

Nothing exciting on the weekend here. (Move along, nothing to see.)

I was reading a discussion about the royal wedding and in particular about Andrew & Fergie's daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, on Esther Friesner's sff.net newsgroup. And I was amused to see Elizabeth Moon comment "I've just been re-reading the Liaden books (Lee & Miller) and it's striking how Liaden-ish their situation is. There's the Delm, Grandmother, who may have mellowed a little but whose entire life has been bent to Duty to the Clan: necessity exists. ..."

And I think it's true.
