Edited to Add:  Marvelous and efficient Baen editor Laura Haywood Cory ([livejournal.com profile] laurahcory1 for those on LJ) has the matter in hand.

Since these alerts are getting more frequent as the release date for The Crystal Variation comes closer, I thought a general posting might be in order.

Steve and I are aware that there are several infelicities in the listing on Amazon and on BN and on Webscriptions for The Crystal Variation, the most notable being the misspelling of the heroine’s name. We do very much appreciate that people are concerned enough about these things to write to us. Our fans are the best.

However! Amazon no longer allows authors to change the listings for their books, even to correct an error. I don’t think BN ever allowed authors to amend things in their catalog. Possibly one might write to Baen Management, as we have done, (infoATbaenDOTcom) and ask them to correct the errors. Possibly they have attempted to do this and the bookstores are ignoring them.

In any case, thank you! for your advertance and your interest, but — hands tied, here.

Thank you.

Replying to myself...

OK, the Webscription listing for The Crystal Variation has the correct spelling of Cantra's name now. I've also verified that the correction has been made in the S&S database, and I've emailed S&S to ask them to push the change through to Amazon & B&N, though I'm not sure if the person at S&S is going to see my message until Tuesday morning, what with it being a holiday weekend and all.

Also, note that the best way to get me directly is laura AT baen. If you have any other corrections, please send them to me.

OMG! Thank you so much! I don't expect such service on a holiday weekend from anybody.

I've had pretty good luck using the "update product info" link in the feedback section near the bottom of the page on Amazon. Based on info I provided through that link information on a book was updated within a day or two.

Glad to hear that Cantra's name at least is getting fixed. Pity that the grammar also appears to be well below par. I take it that nobody proof reads this stuff?

Please send corrections to me at laura at baen dot com. I can't promise to fix everything today, but I'll get to it as soon as possible.

Looks like the ones I spotted on Amazon have already been fixed on the Webscriptions site, so it looks like you've got it well in hand.

You rock, Laura
I'm looking at my website, which like all ABA websites is based on
Ingram's database ----and voila the problem is there too. I'll
talk to somebody Tuesday. I know they aren't there today or Monday.

Thanks for bringing this up - I never would have checked it if you
hadn't.

PS I'm amused that they have it listed as under ONLY Sharon Lee.
Even though Steve is mentioned in the Bio. Ah well. Someone probably
wanted their vacation faster than their fingers could type.

@Lauretta -- I'm not amused ... there are a number of these databases that list a single author only, that refuse to find me at all, and I find myself feeling like the man who wasn't there. For years Powell's couldn't find me or list me -- I stopped going to their site or suggesting it to folks.

Cantra/Amazon

Sure 'nuf Cantra's name is misspelled on Amazon for the Crystal Variation. Hope it can be corrected.

In the previous posting. Thanks for the autobiographical info. I notice also that you subscribe to the belief that our pets are waiting for us across the Rainbow Bridge. I have a friend who had a very clear dream about the Bridge before she ever heard of it. And in a strange twist our beloved Bill Christie, DVM lately of Panguich UT was working there too in the dream.

Meows and Barks, We had a demo the other day of the noise which guinea pigs make at feeding time.

I kept a guinea pig in my college dorm room until they did a room inspection while I was in class. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when they opened the door. You see, the little one had come to associate the door opening with feeding time, and greeted me accordingly. They must have thought I had an alarm on the door. :o)
