The writer, goofing off

So, the day-job staff development day was fun; my two workshops were thought-provoking in different ways, lunch was eggplant lasagna, which was very tasty, though I am sorry to report that the 7 strangers with whom I was supposed to dine were in actuality 7 folks from different departments than mine, all of whom I knew at least slightly. I ditched the ice cream social on the lawn at the end of it all because it was Just. Too. Damn. Hot*. to be standing out on a lawn, ice cream or no ice cream.

Stopped at the grocery on the way home to take on milk-like objects. Arrived at home, I paid bills, including the quarterly taxes — early, so I am not only industrious, I am Virtuous.

And! Not only am I Virtuous, but I am tired. So, no writing tonight, and no uploading of eBooks or anything else of Actual Use. Instead, I’m rustling up some lunch, reading a chapter of Bren with my husband, and hoping the evening cools off enough to be sleepable. Tomorrow — my last full-time day of not-summer — is supposed to be a beast — horrible hot**, and threatening thunderstorms, hail, and all kinds of bad behavior.

We’ll see, I guess.

How’s the weather where you are?

That’s right, laugh. These are Maine values of Too. Damn. Hot. people. Check back with me in January.

The best thing I can say about the weather here is that 40-50% humidity is much more comfortable than 80-90% humidity when the predicted high for the day is 99F. I'm not sure if we actually hit 99 or not, but I'm sure we got to at least 96. Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same.

I live in Minneapolis, we got to 107º by my weather station yesterday (7 June), hottest it's been in 25 years I think. Today a nice clear day of 75º, gotta love midwestern weather.

And tomorrow it's not supposed to break out of the 60s. The weather this year is just hyperactive.

I'd answer, but I've become a small puddle of writer-melt....

As I spent most of the day at work, inside, in air conditioning, I don't know how hot it got ... but it was supposed to be in the '90s! Glad the dog and cats seem to have come through okay ...

But yesterday was 103, officially, and the day before was nearly that high (101, I think). Today it was 75, breezy, sunny - the kind of summer I can tolerate!

i'm with you. my comfortable indoor temp range is 69-75, preferably. my comfortable outdoor temp range is only slightly larger, call it 60-80. i can always put on more clothes; it's really hard to take off more.

I agree with you, anything above 300K/27C/81F is above my maximum operating temperature. I was designed for 1960s computer room temperatures, a constant 70+/-2degF at 40+/-2% RH suits me just fine for sitting down (although I prefer it somewhat lower for sleeping and for doing physical stuff like walking to the shops).

It seems (unless this jinxes it) that the A/C at work is actually working at the moment, instead of doing its usual "it's too hot so I'll break down" act, because yesterday the highest I saw at my desk was a tad under 24C and mostly around 22C. That's high as far as I'm concerned but bearable when I'm only sitting at my desk, when the A/C fails and the temperature gets to 29C my brain switches off.

Here up on the Colorado Plateau in southern UT it's a bit cool for this time of year the temperature being only around 80 every day. Around 45 at night. Over 100 in Minneapolis? Crazy.

Harbour School in Owings Mills, MD is reporting 91F but we're supposed to go to 96F today. And it's humid.
Monday was nice...70s, no humidity. That may have been the Last
Gasp of Spring around here.

I've been singing Too Darn Hot to my dog but when we're both in the indoor AC.

Today - 65, drizzly and gray. The June gloom begins...

Today was foggy and drizzly. We reached 66F, not even close to the predicted 77F. Yesterday was clear and 79F and the day before was a hot 90F with high (for us) humidity. I think all this cool wet weather is just softening me up for our trip to the great Northwest. A more typical June day is 80F and 20% humidity, with an afternoon thunderstorm. Reporting from Denver.

Aaaaaaaaah!

The too damn hot (high 90's - low 100's) left us yesterday and has been replaced by 50's and down into the 40's tonight. WTF? There is no middle ground in Wisconsin this year. We have had 1 day in the 70's everything else has been 50-60 or 90+. And what does that give you in the long run? An average in the 70's. Bah! But I so much prefer the colder temps at night. I'd rather sleep with window open and blanket on then window closed and A/C on.

It's been cold and rainy here in the Pacific Northwest for months. We feel lucky if we break 70F anymore.
