My beloved purple Baggallini Messenger Bag, which has traveled cross-country, up and down the East Coast, into and out of Canada, attended several WorldCons, been Bag Guest of Honor at several more conventions all over the map, and gone to the day-job every dern day for almost five years. . .is starting to show its miles. In fact, it should probably not be asked to attend this year's festivities in Reno. The trouble? Purple is not a possible color at this time. Of the colors available, I am torn between black (because it goes with everything in exactly the same way the purple bag goes with nothing) or tomato red (because it is a traveling bag and ought to be easy to keep in the eye).

Unfortunately, all I can think is that black and red are the aijii's colors, which is no help at all.

So! Help me decide.

What color should Rolanni's replacement world-traveling bag be?

I chose the ticky box because Ticky Box! But red is probably a good choice.

Well, I don't know how important it is to you that your bag go with your outfit - if not, red seems like the clear choice. But really, what is your preference, of the two colors?

Although I voted for the red, there is a reviewer on Amazon who says that the tomato red is more like orange than the red shown in the picture.

I voted for red because it seems like everyone has a black bag and it's just easier to find a bag that's not black and stands out a bit. I have never worried about color coordinating a backpack/travel bag with what I wear; call me unusual:D

Black and white and RED all over

Like the old riddle, what is black and white and "read" all over, I vote for red. Of course I just bought myself a Kindle and chose the basic black of the two colors offered...and the very first things I loaded on to it are 9 of the Liaden chapbooks. I am going to add FLEDGLING, SALTATION, MOUSE AND DRAGON and others from BAEN as soon as my feeble brain gets "tech" support, aka my friend who put the Kindle app on my computer so I could order the eARC of GHOST SHIP. That started this whole electronic experimentation thing so I figure she can come over and show me how to do something more with it than just order directly from the Kindle store. I want to put the GHOST SHIP eARC on the Kindle for ease of re-reading but don't know how to transfer it from my computer to my Kindle. You can see that your books are the inspiration and motivation for me to move more fully into this brave new electronic age. Thanks. Traveling this summer is going to be much easier without schlepping a backpack full of books on and off the plane.

I vote for red, because color coordination is highly overrated :-)

Anything but black, since *everyone* has a black bag and it will make yours harder to spot/distinguish.

Of the colors I'm seeing on Amazon (if I have the right bag) I'd go with Plum. Which is sort of purple.

a multitude of colors

I went to the Baggallini website and they do have many other colors.

Although I voted for red, I think if I were purchasing one, I might go for the Crinkle (nylon fabric) in Mushroom/Caspian Blue or the khaki in ripstop.

Brown goes with everything but doesn't stand out as much as bright orange red nor will it show the feline hairs as much as a darker color will.

Just my op, of course!

Sale!

I would go with turquoise, but that's me.

I voted red, because it is more fun than black, but I agree that you should check out alternative colors. They have some great ones (and some obnoxious ones - the orange is nasty), and some of the combo's in the crinkle nylon are a lot of fun. Be bold!

purple baggalini bag

I have a purple Baggalini "Only" bag that has maybe been used . . . twice? OK, maybe three times.

It is this bag. http://www.baggallini.com/product1.asp?collection='ht'&product='ONR207'

Of the color choices, it is the purple that is 5th from the left on the bottom BUT the interior is a bright lime green rather than the dark green shown.

Any chance it's the bag you're trying to replace?

Anyone with ocassionally purple hair and a multi-star shirt should not have a generic black bag.

Travel bags should definitely be easy to spot, so I voted for red.

This lists one available in Plum, and four available in Periwinkle if you prefer a lighter color.

When I got to, "Unfortunately, all I can think is that black and red are the aiji's colors..." my brain got stuck thinking, "yes, they are!", so you got "Ticky box!" from me.

I am no help at all.

Well, I was going to say, "The bag of a different color," but that's no help, and it's too late anyway. One thought -- I tend to decorate bags, hats, and so forth with buttons, which helps me to identify which of the umpteen identical conference bags (for example) is mine. You can even get "make it yourself" buttons at craft stores, which let you print something and then put your own message inside.

Oh, yeah. The purple bag, in addition to being purple, has a Who's Your Mama? button on it, with a graphic of Mary Shelley. There are some of those around, but I'm not likely to meet three dozen in a train station.

I like that bag. And it holds up well? (Me, totally ignoring the color issue and instead, shopping)

There are two bags going on here, one in ripstop nylon, which I have, and which wears like iron. The other is in crinkle nylon, which Steve has, and which does well for him, but! (1) he asks less of his bag than I do of mine and (2) the metal nameplate on the crinkle nylon edition tends to unexpectedly catch on things. My Preferred Sort has a fabric nametag which doesn't present the same sort of challenges.

But, yeah -- great bag. Highly recommended.
