rolanni: (booksflying1.1)

Up early to take Mozart to the vet’s to have dental work done, then home for a visit from the c-pap nurse, eat lunch, and go back into town to pick Mozart up from the vet’s.

Between all that, Steve and I took a walk; I did. . .all? Really? of the laundry, and converted Eidolon, Misfits, Halfling Moon, Skyblaze, and The Cat’s Job into Smashbooks.Ā  This leaves only four chapbooks, a slim volume of poetry and a novel to convert.

I do believe I’ll be pleased to see the back of this particular project.

For those of an opinionated turn of mind, NPR is looking to compile a list of the 100 Best SF and Fantasy books. You can submit your favorites here. Please note that the rules allow the nomination of a series as one work — the Liaden UniverseĀ® novels do qualify.

It’s somehow gotten later than I thought it would be by this time, if that makes any sense. The pain meds seem to have worn off poor Mo, who now can’t quite settle down. I offered him some wet food, but, no, he wanted cat crunchies. Made my teeth hurt, just watching him.

Regardless of which, I ought to get something to eat, my own self.

Interesting to see what others have nominated - quite a broad range! I'm glad it's possible to nominate by series - it saves having to pick a favorite book from an outstanding series. The Liaden Universe series was the first on my list, of course, but there were lots of others too.

My cat was the same, after she had her dental work --- only nibbled at the soft food, but went after the crunchies like gangbusters!

Just went over and registered for the NPR poll and after voting (Liaden Universe first, and then I DARE because, well, just because) scrolled down to view some of the other listings. Interesting choices and reminded me of how many good SF/Fantasy books there are.

I find that the list of nominations is usually more interesting than the 'winners', particularly for self-selected "top 100" type things. I can probably predict several of the "top 10", for instance, but in te nominations there are often things which may have only got a few votes so they didn't appear on the final list which I don't know already.

Yep, as far as I can see the main benefit of this sort of poll is the chance that someone who hasn't tried, heard of, any of Sharon and Steve's books might say, "Hmmm, a lot of folks seem to rate this Liaden Universe series highly. Maybe I should give it a try..." and WHAM, they're hooked! Another small bit of marketing we can help with so that Sharon and Steve have the freedom to write...yay, more books for us!

One of WGBH's call in talk shows this afternoon was on the topic of Summer Reading. One of the callers recommended Lee and Miller's books. Specifically Local Custom and Balance of Trade as good starting points.
