A quick technical note: the new stories aren't showing up in the RSS feed, because WordPress feeds include only posts, not pages. To fix this, you could either post the stories as posts, or do a separate news post announcing each new stories rather than continually editing that old one from July 29.

That's got it.

WordPress is really set up to do exactly what you were doing before with the home page; it's just that each update needs to be a separate post. It shows the date automatically, so all you'd really need to do is give each update a title (like, New story: "Guaranteed Delivery") and then do your thing with the link in the body of the post.

Yay!

And so I shall do, from now.

Thank you, again.

... and now that I've had time to actually read the story in question: that was lovely. Thanks.

Any chance of Splinter Universe stories linking to a downloadable file? (I hate to read stories sitting at the computer -- while I can copy/paste the text to make my own file to put on the Kindle, I'm sure there are other fans who share my preference, and don't have high-maintenance requirements re format or frills.)

Nope, sorry.

This project is limited (severely as it happens) by the (almost complete lack of) technical skill of the operator. Who is me. At some point, the stories will show up in the Kindle, Nook and Smashthing stores.

What did you use to create the page? Because that's the clearest and most easily parsed HTML that I've seen in a long time, most HTML formatters put loads of extraneous 'stuff' in it (whatever created that doesn't even credit itself as far as I saw).

(Oh, I enjoyed the story as well, thanks. Well, it did have one of my "A-list" girls in it -- I may have mentioned that I tend to fall for your female characters with names starting with 'A'...)

Well, that was (one of) the (couple) reason(s) I went with Wordpress for this and the other web projects I've been doing: It will do the html for me; it writes a reasonbly clean hand; and all I have to do is paste in my text.

And remember to think like Wordpress, a process that's being a little slower than either Wordpress or I (or sleary or jhawk) would like.

If you haven't discovered it yet, check out Instapaper.com. It gives you a "read later" button that will send a page/article/story to your Instapaper account, which can then automatically email the packet of articles to your kindle (it can be transferred manually too). Great way to get away from the computer screen.

Great story!

Lots of fun, and an interesting glimpse of a society I don't think we've seen before, have we?
