Thanks to everyone who spoke to the question of the ancient disk.   A Plan has been put in motion.

Today?  Was errands in town.  We finally got the gym memberships squared away — our fault, not the gym’s — and I hope to start in with the exercising on Friday.

Why Friday?  you ask.  Why not, oh, tomorrow?

Because tomorrow, at the theoretical hour of 8:30 AM, the painters will arrive.  The guy who’s doing the deck also spoke fondly of a Wednesday start-up, but he won’t be by until noon.

I’m pleased to announce that the entire moveable contents of the kitchen and the living room (the Front of the House) have been relocated to my office, Steve’s office and the bedroom (the Back of the House). The painters will need to move the heavy furniture, which I can’t shift, and which wouldn’t fit down the hallway anyway, into the middle of the rooms and throw a tarp over the whole bidness, but the boss-lady assures me this will be no problem.

Tomorrow, I will be locked in my office, avoiding painters, music on to drown out the merry sound of the chainsaw chewing through the existing deck.  My hope is that I will have a working draft of “Tinsori Light” by the time the painters pack up and leave us, on Thursday.

Wish me luck.

In other news, have you perhaps seen Lemony Snicket’s 13 Observations on Occupy Wall Street?  If not, it’s here, and worth a look.  I’m particularly fond of #11.

Ooo, I wonder what the cats will think of all the fuss and visitors ...

Number 5 made me think of the Little Red Hen. Hmmm, political statements and children's allegories, who knew what they might have in common?

Also, if you can write with painters in your house I bow to your awesome powers of concentration. Especially after the umpteenth interruption. Good luck at the Cat Farm!

"if you can write with painters"

For some reason my mind pulled those words out and I thought of the Chinese characters being 'painted' with a brush (it makes lovely writing, you can't get away with the sort of unreadable scrawl I produce). And I imagined Our Authors writing novels that way...

Thanks Keristor! You gave me a nice grin this evening when I read your post. You never know what someone will "pull out" from your post-that's half the fun!

Me, too, #11. Thanks so much for pointing them out.

Best of luck with *all* your work for the rest of the week. Sounds...um, insane? Yeah, that's the word.

#11 and Frederick Douglass

Having a liking for history, I like this one as well and I keep on my bulletin board at work this quote from Frederick Douglass, which I think is also apropos:

Power concedes nothing without demand. If there is no struggle, there is no progress.

Thanks for the link to the Lemony Snicket observations.

Good luck with the exercise program! I recently joined a gym, and find that if I go (nearly) every day, it becomes a habit, but the minute I slack off (like when I was sick for a week in October), getting back into it is a chore! But I do feel MUCH better when I'm working out - more energy, better mental focus, and I sleep more soundly.

Lemony Snicket

If one clicks on "HOME" after Lemony Snicket's observations one sees a list of maybe hundreds of authors who support Occupy Wall Street. So I would suppose that they are all part of the 99%. Proving that authors are, for the most part, not rich.

Good luck with the house. Must be extremely annoying or at least weird for the cats. Although they do get to perch on top of piles of stuff with a tarp over it. That might be amusing.

Lemony Snicket

I had to look up Lemony Snicket. I have a very vague memory of a cartoon where the evil Uncle Olaf was harassing the children. Anyway, Mr. Snicket has absolutely first class credentials ....seriously... Look him up in ?Wikipedia.I liked his 13 observations very much. If I were in the 1% I would pay close attention to #11. Also #10: about all those nice offices with pens, etc. As opposed to the tarps, tents and snow outside.
