So, that’s done.

No, don’t get all excited; what I mean to say is — “All righty, then!  I am now in a position to seriously take a red pen to the last hunnert-twenty-six pages of the manuscript.”  These pages still include two spots that read

HERE A MIRACLE OCCURS

* * *

. . .but we’re in overall good shape, by which I mean, on schedule to turn in the final manuscript on March 31.

Oh, I also need to write the Epilogue, but I can’t actually do that until I’ve really, seriously got everything in these last few pages nailed down flat.

In the office next door, Steve is chomping away at the revisions for Dragon Ship; behind me, Mozart is snoring in the corner by the file cabinet, and Scrabble is on bird-watch in the kitchen.

Bidness as usual here at the Cat Farm and Confusion Factory.

For those keeping score at home, here is the present state of the To-Do List.

1.  Turn in Necessity’s Child — March 31
2.  Go to Meriden for Socks — April 1
3.  Talk at Rockland, Maine Public Library — April 5 (6:30 p.m.)
4Dragon Ship revisions due at Baen — April 15
5.  Turn in novel proposals (3) to Madame the Editor — April 23
6.  ConQuesT — May 25-27
7.  Interview at WERU Writers Forum with Joan Clemens & Ellie O’Leary, June 14, 10 a.m.
8.  Turn in short story to Baen — July 1
9.  Turn in Trade Secret — July 15
10.  Figure out the Liaden audible lexicon
11.  Convert Barnburner and Gunshy into ebooks
12.  Feasibility study:  remodel bathroom
13. Pie in the Sky: Vacation — Septemberish

Progress on Necessity’s Child (tbfkaG)
109,369/100,000 words OR 109% complete

“Your sister asserts that your tutor was not kind.  I wonder why she said so.”

. . .and as I finish this entry up and glance out the window. . .Yes, it is snowing. . .

Well, "vacation" is kind of a misnomer. If I can figure out how to make it work, it would be more on the order of "living in a certain place for a month in order to Soak up Color."

What with the rest of the financial challenges coming down the pike this year, though, it really is pie-in-the-sky, any way you slice it.

I figured it was more than "tack a few days onto a con trip" type of vacation. And who knows, maybe someone will have a inexpensive one month sublet in #location of your choice# conveniently!

of #2. Lost my big boy last fall, but with an 18 month old (human) in the house, New Kitteh must wait. Survival of the fittest is not a Necessary Entertainment right now.

But I wantz!!!

Bearing in mind that I know nothing about the rearing of young humans, it does seem cruel that having a baby precludes the addition of a new cat. I understand that adding a new kitten to the household might result in, err, adventures among the younger set, but a nice, staid, middle-aged lady or gent?

I should mention here that we have Mozart because (after five years) his people gave him back to his cattery -- because they were going to have a baby, so very likely I'm all wet. Still, I hope you can get a cat soon.

Oh no, I have considered a more mature addition, but having an Older Cat still (litter mate to the one I lost) who is picky about her company, and 2 older (which means nothing with English Setters) dogs about, I decided that a kitten with no pre-existing notions of how a household SHOULD be run would be a better choice. Too many personalities.

Plus Setter # the One is particularly burdensome for Cats of Dignity.

I'm sort of puzzled at Nr. 11 - because I bought both those books at Fictionwise as ebooks... Should I send you copies of mine? Can you use them as models if you want to modify them for some reason?

*thwaks self on head*

I didn't think of asking if anyone had copies. I coulda sworn I had copies, but if I do, I put them Some Place Safe. *sigh*

Do you have them in epub, or...?

You can phone posts to LJ. Type words, phone in pronunciation. Not beautiful, but maybe workable.

Cats and Babies

First of all, condolences to Caosimh on the losing of her big cat. Very sorry. That's very too bad.

But now wanting to bring a new cat into the family. Lots of families, after all, include cats and babies and are getting along just fine. Rolanni's suggestion of a middle aged cat is a good one imo. And I'm sure there's a fine animal welfare organization in your town which can provide you with many excellent choices.

Wishing Scrabble an excellent bird watch.
Also good luck with that red pen.

Thank you for your thoughts:) I am surviving on the requisite minimum one cat for now, as it is really more the combo of baby+cat+2crazydogs that is making me think more "kitten later". I figure I can really start looking about again this fall, so it isn't a LONG term cat deficit.
