Carousel Tides t-shirt!

You thought I’d forgotten, didn’t you?

Many thanks to Pat Reuss and to Vincent, we have art!

And, thanks to Black Dog Designs, we have a mock-up of the shirt!

The color of the shirt is subject to change (I’m still thinking cotton-candy colors — pink, light blue, light green), and there are a couple other details that need to be nailed down — such as cost, sizing, print run, how many colors we can do — but this is the general idea.

So, the question:  Would you — yes, you — purchase this t-shirt?

Edited to add:  Mock-up of t-shirt with large logo on back, title and author’s name on front.  Same rules as above.

Edited Again to add: There’s some talk over at the Eagles Over the Kennebec section of this discussion about having the title and author’s name in a ribbon (on a ribbon? as a ribbon?). Obviously, I’m not very clear what this means, and even if I knew, it’s unlikely I could produce whatever-it-is. Which means? The only way there’s a ribbon is if someone makes it and donates the art to the cause. If someone wishes to attempt this, do mind the font on the graphic — and do a close match, thanks.

As large as the artwork is, I personally would really prefer it centered on the chest. And possibly just a scoshe larger. If that were the case, yes I would buy a shirt.

Remembering that this is a mock-up, and I still need to sit down with the man who'll tell me that I'm all wet...

We may end up going with the Great Big Graphic across the chest look. I'd rather not, myself, because I had wanted to evoke the t-shirts that they sold at Hershey Park &c, back in the day, which were bright, candy-colored ringer tees, with the park name/logo where the breast pocket would be.

Hmm hmm hmm... If the logo were a little smaller that would work for me. I can see your point. Love Hershey Park, too. :)

I confess my first thought on hearing of candy-colored shirts was to wonder what that would look like if the logo were white.

And, of course, one person's opinion, many people may love it like this, YMMV, etc, etc.

I would buy one, whatever the final design.

I prefer first rather than second design but will buy whatever you decide. I have no objection to large front graphics.

Assuming the price is reasonable, I will buy one if it comes in blue (any blue). I would at least consider pink, if there's no blue. I look terrible in light green, so I wouldn't buy that.

Just saw the second mock-up. My answer is still the same, although if you had both versions I'd probably buy the first rather than the second.

I like the artwork. My suggestions mirror those above - make the artwork a smidge smaller if it is going to be a breast logo. Otherwise, flip the front and back so that it has the book name where a name tag would be, and a big back logo.

And sure! I'll buy one. Support the author and get people curious about the book... What 's not to like? My old "Plan B is now in effect" shirt *still* gets tons of comments, as does "Hi there, thrill seeker." I'd be happy with any shade of blue, most shades of green, cream, white... I'm not sure I can do pink, though.

A "Plan B" t-shirt? I need to find one of those.

I do like the second version better, with the large back artwork. Any color is fine.

If the back artwork is just a bit smaller or higher, then one can tuck in the shirt w/o losing the bottom line.

The "Plan B" shirt was offered only when the book was released, back before the final Tree-and-Dragon logo was designed. So the front tree design looks a bit odd. And I found out by wearing it to Worldcon last year that the t-shirt print run was something like 50 shirts. (I had to call and squee to Mom when I found out that I had such a collector's item!).... So finding one could be a challenge. Good luck with your quest.

I had the same thought as reedrover, perhaps the art full size on the back, and a small title & author name on the upper left front.

But assuming it comes in a size large enough for me, and depending a little on price, I would buy it in any of the forms under discussion.

The batwing horse is fabulous, BTW.

If I could ever find someone willing to pay me to do things for them, I'd be delighted to buy a shirt. Until that happy day, I'll have to look on enviously...

Yes, I like, but then I liked the book, too. Cost would be the only factor, since I'd want two.

Love the artwork, and would agree with art on back and book name on front. Mainly because art on front on a woman's shirt either needs to be smaller (sadly) or would be- awkward? And full chest always seems a bit overstated to me. In any case, yay, and yes, assuming non-homelessness, probably would buy :)

Oh I do like the large logo on back, title on front version! Would definitely buy one of those as displayed.

Is there any possibility that the title and author's name could go in a ribbon like "Ride the Carousel"? Or would that make it too large for the breast pocket position?

The artwork is just gorgeous, by the way.

I'm flipping back and forth between Facebook and LJ in this conversation. While I didn't realize you were drawing the "pocket logo" placement from an actual design sold in parks, I do like the large centered image better. I'd think about the pocket logo version; I'd definitely buy the large centered version, whether front or back.

Yes. Yes. I like the second mockup better, but would go for either. A ringer tee would be great.

Yes, I would purchase one.

White on jewel tones can look quite good and be quite readable.

My personal preference is large front design with text across the back, but large back design with text in ribbons across the breast pocket area is quite appealing too.

artistically, I'd rather have:

- slighly smaller logo on front and "Carousel Tides" splashed across the top back in some sort of stylized font and the byline in smaller letters nearby

or

- "Carousel Tides" in a smaller stylized type on the front (no byline), and the logo large on the back.

Not that I don't like the byline, or the title, but just the bare title=author hanging out there looks distinctly amateurish, while the logo itself is quite nice.

My $0.02...

The byline, says the author, is sort of the point of the whole exercise, since bookstores file by author name, not by title. So, we're kind stuck there

And we're probably stuck with a certain level of "amateur," too, given my skills and unwillingness to put the design team through any more hoops on my behalf.

OK, now I want a large logo on the front with title and author above it. That would do for me and I would buy it. :)

Amd one side printing is cheaper, too.

See, I'm afraid that all of that on the front would be 'way too busy, same like it is with everything crammed onto the back of the shirt.

...and some people tuck their shirts in so they'd loose part of the art, and if we make everything small enough to give some air between graphic and words, then people'd been squinting at your chest...

So, yanno, each option has drawbacks.

I second Otterb. I really, really prefer the large logo on the back. It leads to "Oh, where is Archer's Beach?" and recognition hits for the fellow fans. I don't like, and won't buy, large logos on the front, too generously endowed to want anybody to stare at me chest. I also like the idea of a ribbon tag on the front with just the title. More festive, more discreet, but still conveys the info. And yes, the larger size shirt the better. I'll buy one, assuming price is reasonable, and color is pretty or neutral. Prefer light green, light sky or teal blue, tan is okay. Pink under duress, how about peach?

Re: second edit. I could give it a try. Heartily agree about matching fonts. Just for ease, do you happen to know what the font on the graphic is?

edited to add: Aargh! The links to the shirt mockups are showing up as blank "create a new shirt" pages.

Almost 24-hours is pretty good, considering.

And...nope, I don't know what the font on the graphic is.

Couldn't see the mock up. But.....the idea of the old fashioned T you mentioned sounds nice. But will buy the shirt regardless.
