rolanni: (Yay!)

The sun rises today upon a day of celebration!  No, not Steve's birthday -- that's Tuesday.

Today!

Today, dear friends, marks one year since I renewed my membership as a gallowglass in the crack elite corps of Freelance Writers.

Let there be dancing, and singing, and merrymaking of all kinds!

*does the Freelancer Dance*

(which mainly involves checking the PO box for checks, checking email for new jobs, and checking the cookbook for another thing to do with ramen, but it's a dance nonetheless)

Well, I can't prove it down here. I do, however, have a box full of metaphors, just in from the warehouse. You want I should send you some?

Freelance gigs

I tried freelance journalism for a few years. Eventually, I gave up and went back to salaried print and radio news. Despite La Boheme, starving in a garret is vastly overrated.

Please sign your posts. Especially please sign your posts if you're going to be a wet blanket at the party.

I happen to prefer freelancing to the shorts of "real jobs" I'm deemed fit to fill. If you're more comfortable being a salaryman, then you're very wise to stick with that.

Sun is definitely up down here, 81 degrees at 9 and a half a.m. and heading for the century mark. Eagerly awaiting the next installment in the "Agent of Change" story arc. . .

Hurrah! Who hoo! Celebrate! The more time you and Steve have to write, the more we get to read, so pleased you can write now without those nagging interruptions of salaried work. It is 79' here north of San Francisco, clear blue skies with just a hint of green still on the hills. Cooling breeze just starting in from the ocean/Bodega Bay, which is about 20 minutes away. Great news on a lovely day. Enjoy! Kathy

A year well lived

Congratulations on completing the year as your own woman, mistress of your fate, if any of us can be said to be such, factoring in events external which we can't control. We do control how we respond however, running the gamut from "Scream, shout, run about" to "Damn it, I WILL get through this!" and you and Steve are the "will get through this" ilk so again, congratulations.

I went back and looked through the blog posts from a year ago this time and noticed that the one which announced that you and the day job were parting ways also contained the announcements that a number of books had earned out, and handsomely so. I gather that since there was no mention thus far and presumably the spring/summer royalty payout and reconciliation has transpired, I guess we have to wait another period before being able to rejoice in GHOST SHIP's earn out? Since the first hardcover edition sold out and there was no second printing in hardcover perhaps it just needs the appearance of the paperback version to push it right over the top into the promised land of accruing royalties. Even though I purchased several signed hardcover copies from Uncle Hugo's and a hardcover "reading copy" from B&N I will spring for a paperback as well. It can be the purse/backpack copy for travel.

Congratulations and best wishes! I just saw this post, and now I think I have reached a fuller understanding of the “Gallowglass Chair.”
