I think part of the confusion here may be that until this week Sharon and Steve did not have a contract for any books in this story arc beyond Dragon Ship. Now they do, although we probably won't see any of them until 2014, based on previous experience.

As far as unfinished storylines, this "cliffhanger" stuff is such a hallmark of Sharon and Steve's work, that I have come to expect it. Frustrating? Yes. But forgivable, because I know that more will follow.

Necessity's Child

Don't forget Necessity's Child - it doesn't continue Theo/Bechimo's story - but does take place on Surebleak after the clan has relocated, so I'm sure it moves things forward here and there.

and it's coming in February '13, which should mean the eArc will be available this year! Yeah for any new Liaden adventures!!

There's also the Balance of Trade sequel. Relatively early-on in BoT Jethri, a Terran/Uncle's kin (though he found out he was kin of the Uncle only after first find out his host mother was not his biomother when she booted him off her/her family's ship, and then finding out the kinship to the Uncle only after meeting the Uncle)... got formally adopted into a Liaden High House clan--something deprecated in the first three books where one of the DoI's gripes and targets where Liaden House LInes had become polluted in the view of the DoI with Terran blood, and where bigoted no-Terran-blood Liaden lines (the Trader who made Priscilla's life miserable) despised crossing-in of Terran blood into Liaden Lines.

There are a few different threads/plotlines from BoT that insinuated their way to Dragon Ship:
o the Uncle
o the Loopers--Jethri was born on a Looper and was part of a Looper ship unit until his womb "mother" gave him the boot, however, he's kin to married-in Family on the Looper ship, and his siblings who were the biochildren of his womb-mother regard him as a brother
o Liaden clans with Terran blood/members. Jethri's High House Liaden by adoption by the Delm herself, and the main base of the Clan Jethri gained a stronger social base in than born-to-the-Clan-but-horrors-a-dramliz!-daughter Meicha had. The Clan sited itself in the main off Liad, because the Clan was anti-dramliz.
o the "old Tech" -- while Jethri didn't get to keep any working old tech, a big chuck of BoT revolved around old tech and the knowledge of it that the Uncle and his adult kin had, including healing units.
o Liaden Scouts. A Scout came to Jethri's aid.

Mesha-Merlin was responsible for the ending of I Dare, however. (Source--personal conversation with the principal, years ago, who said he wanted it to be clear that I Dare was not the end of the stories (alas, Meisha Merlin turned out to be headed for failure and The Next Book in the plotlines not only did not get published by Meisha Merlin, but Meisha Merlin foloded and once again Sharon and Steve were left hanging with story to tell and reders who wanted the stories, and no publisher....and royalties owed by unpaid).
