I'm still freezing, but at least the headache's gone. In case anybody cares, I could really do without getting sick. Thank you.

Did a good deal more office excavation yesterday, and discovered that in addition to a floor, I have horizontal surfaces. One is completely clear and I can actually see the other one. All right! One more concerted go and the office should be in a state of nobody-works-here orderliness. Just in time to start the next book.

Watched Tomb Raiders/Lara Croft II last night. Great gadgets, big guns. Moderately silly plot and characters, without the good-natured big-heartedness which is the saving grace of Jackie Chan movies.

Spent the morning throwing novel ideas at the screen to see which ones stick. An ...interesting... exercise. We'll sit down after dinner and see which of the possibles is most interesting, then take those and do longer synopsis of each, naming names, locating locations, and substituting actual story points for the hand-waving. The ideas that survive the process go on to Madame the Agent. And we shall see.

Well. Time to do dishes, and then a curl-up in the blue chair with a book, and Grandma Backof's brown-and-gold african.

Guess what?

No wonder you're cold: we forgot to turn the heat up...

That would do it.

I need clean surfaces before I can comfortably start a new project as well. I've semi-started the next book, but I've been working in my bedroom with the laptop, not in my office at the desktop. The office isn't in the worst shape it's ever been--that occurred after I finished the second book and found that I had over a year's worth of New Scientist stacked beneath the desk, among too may other things. But it's not great. Need to file away last year's receipts, reconcile a couple of months of bank statements, and dump the junk mail that seems to pup when I turn my back.

I did start cleaning last night. Unfortunately I couldn't clean for long because Mickey, who sleeps in my office, stared at me with his puppy dog eyes and sighed a lot, which was his way of saying "why are you in my room at night with the light on, making noise?" So, I turned in.

Spent all day today outside doing yard work. The office, unfortunately, is still there. No Magic Cleaning Pixies graced me with a visit.

You have to leave rum out for the Magic Cleaning Pixies. 'Course, then you'll never find anything they've filed...

The outside cleanup here goes slowly. Amazing how much stuff accumulates under the snow. If we can get another nice (i.e. not raining) day when the ground is something less than a quag, I think we'll be able to get the rest of it done. The plowman, um, sorta destroyed the little wire fence that was theoretically holding the rose bushes back from World Dominion. I should get in there with wire clippers and pull what's left of the fence out before it's inextricably entangled with the roses.

Horizontal surfaces? Aren't those properly called "cat lounges"?

The cats are perfectly happy to sleep on top the papers. I'd say they prefer it, in fact. Crunch, rustle, crackle...
