rolanni: (Caution: Writing Ahead)
[personal profile] rolanni

Herewith, the Lee and Miller (and Lee) delivery dates for the next while.

Trade Secrets (Liaden). . . . . . January 9, 2012 2013
Carousel Sun (Archers Beach). . . . . . February 15, 2013
Carousel Seas (Archers Beach). . . . . . August 15, 2013
First of Five (Liaden). . . . . . May 15, 2014
Second of Five (Liaden). . . . . . February 15, 2015
Third of Five (Liaden). . . . . . November 15, 2015
Fourth of Five (Liaden). . . . . . August 15, 2016
Fifth of Five (Liaden). . . . . . May 15, 2017

For clarity, a small review of terms:

Delivery date means the date on which a particular manuscript is due to arrive on the editor's desk.

Publication date is the date on which a book is scheduled to be published.

These two things are not the same.  Publishers (wisely) tend not to set publication dates in stone until the manuscript has been delivered.  A good rule of thumb is to figure that a particular title will be published nine months to a year after delivery.

This makes me very happy

I love to know that my favorite authors are writing new stories for characters I know and love. I especially like to know that you two are writing because I feel like for a long time y'all didn't know about your audience and how much we looked forward to new material from you all. I'm so glad I get to follow you and let you know I'm not a fan, I'm a supporter. I like to give my money to people who are producing stuff I like. Thanks for doing what you do.

Yay!

Just to clarify First of Five (etc.) Those are just the stand-in names? Not an obscure multi-plot arc referrence? :D

I don't know. We had so much fun with George. And now we have one o' five, or is that 105, and all his friends? Almost sounds like an after shave, somehow. I put a dash of 1 o' 5 on, then I went to dinner?

I'll bet when we get there, we'll have more interesting names.

Reminds me of the Star Trek character named "Seven of Nine".

Lemme see here, that May 2014 is ... wow that's a lotta months away.

I, too, was reminded of Borg nomenclature with your One of Five, Two of Five, etc. Five years seems a bit long to spend on tenterhooks awaiting the next book in the series. However, seeing as how I'm a newbie and thus had a catalog of Liaden books waiting to be read, and considering how long your hard core, long-time fans waited for more Liaden books, I can't really complain. I also like Sydnie Montgomery's point about not being a fan, but rather being a supporter. Count me as a supporter, too.

Hi, hoping that while madly trying to meet all your writing deadlines (and making your innumerable supporters very happy) you have stocked up for the upcoming storms. Take care. Kathy

It looks like the storm is going to make landfall significantly downcast. We're looking at a few days that will be warmer than usual for us (that tropical hurricane air), and rain. Not so much different than New England in the fall... We did go in to town last week to do Winter Stock Up, so we've supplies on hand.

So what you're saying is that we can't have them all tomorrow? The Liaden universe is great, so keep up the good work!

Except at Baen, of course, but those nice high e-ARC prices eat up the advance quite nicely, leaving more royalties for later -- cause no one buys JUST the e-ARC, now do they?

I'm tearing myself away from Necessity's Child E-Arc just long enough to say: I fully support the "Lee and Miller Jobs Plan".
This Plan will provide jobs in the publishing, paper, bookstore, on-line, e-reader, and numerous other industries.
Lee and Miller are doing their part to restore our economy. We can do our part by voting our pocketbooks.
So, vote now and vote often.
