rolanni: (Necessity's Child)
[personal profile] rolanni

The revisions came back on the essay; happily, nothing drastic.  I'll deal with them...tomorrow.  Or Saturday.

This morning, FedEx brought another 600-ish tip-in pages for Necessity's Child for Steve and me to sign, so -- good on y'all who pre-ordered signed copies!

Also! Did you know that February 2013 is the Silver Anniversary of the Liaden Universe®? That's right, in February 1988, the paperback original of a quirky little space opera titled Agent of Change, by Steve Miller and Sharon Lee, appeared in bookstores everywhere! And the rest?  Is history!

In celebration of the persistence of history, we'll be hosting a combined book release party/silver anniversary at Boskone -- more details as they're nailed down.

We ought to plan a web celebration, too, for the folks who can't make Boskone.  What do you think we should do?

Twenty-five years, and all of the Liaden books are in print.  That's really kind of awesome, actually.

And in other news, I cleaned the bathroom.

25 years

Having everything in print 25 years later is indeed awesome -- no "kind of" about it. :-)

As to the bathroom: in the words of somebody Zen, "First enlightenment and then the laundry."

Congrats,
Kali

The thing I was planning to do in 2013 anyway, which I now retroactively declare to be my way of marking the Anniversary (and celebrating that "all in print" thing), is to re-read the whole Liaden Universe in chronological order, one chapter a day. And probably blog it somewhere, to keep me honest.

I don't yet know if I'll be starting in February, though: what I'm intending to do is wait for the release date of Trade Secrets to be set, then schedule the re-read around it.

All that text and what did I come away with? A huge "Dr. Hook" earworm. I'll be hearing that album in my sleep tonight, I'm betting. (And thank you - it had been a while since I last thought of it.)

(ANd also - congratulations. There aren't very many authors with that sort of print record. Not nowadays.

Now I really, really want to go to Boskone. I shall have to see if the finances can manage it.

And does show my age that I immediately had a visit from the earworm singing "We've got a genuine Indian guru teaching us a better way."

I thought that was: "We got toes and fingers."

Going down to the car yesterday, the young man who lives next door noticed my Tree and Dragon shirt. Conversation ensued. He and his S.O. now have temporary possession of two of my more precious books. One of these days I might even greet a fellow traveler with a bow and not be summarily relegated to the "strange and possibly dangerous" file.
I am very glad that you have brought such a rich universe to environs of this third rock. I am made more glad by the knowledge you are still writing.
Please accept my heartfelt congratulations!

I discovered you & Steve by "accident" in mid '90's - but have gobbled up all the Liaden stories. A VERY happy discovery and one whose stories I hope come for a long time.
Congratulations.

I'm a latecomer to the party (last year!)but no less enthusiastic because of it. And it was because of the internet that I found you. I'm also so glad all the books are still in print -- that means I could acquire all of them for my very own to read (and reread)(and rereread). Congratulations, and long may you wave!

I still remember seeing the copy of Agent of Change on the bookshelf almost 25 years ago. My life is defined by books and what I was reading when. Still have that original book and I still love the story and the many stories that have followed. Thank you both very much.

All is silver

I, too, now have the Dr. Hook earworm running in my head. Could be worse, I guess. This weekend it was an aria by a long dead Swedish tenor.

It doesn't seem like it has been 25 years since I bought Agent of Change, romped through it in one gulp and made the mistake of loaning it to my father. He loaned it to my stepbrothers and I never saw it again. Now, I buy the e-ditions and loan it to my brothers; my dad buys the dead trees version and lends it where he will. I even offered him a free nook reader, but the digital revolution seems to have passed him by. After all, he is 85.

Congrats on your 25th.

Shirley
