Oh, let's see.

On Tuesday Monday, Steve and I went into town to do some minor grocery shopping and pick up a music stand.  We had noticed that Socks hadn't asked for breakfast, but sometimes he, like me, doesn't want to be bothered with breakfast, so we didn't think much of it.

We were brought to a realization of our error when we returned home some hours later, groceries in arms.  Socks was clearly in distress and, it being Christmas Eve, our local vet was naturally closed. So, we took a road trip down to Lewiston, to see the kind and competent folks at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine.  Five hours and one-hundred-thirty-odd miles later, and one-hundred-fifty-eight dollars lighter, we were back at the Cat Farm, Socks much improved, though of course worn out by his ordeal.

Yesterday, we took a half-day off to watch "Singing in the Rain," and play the inaugural game on our new double-Scrabble.  Yes, we are slackers.

Today, we're under a Winter Storm Warning as the Wicked Weather that's been pacing up the coast finally reaches us, on the overnight.  We're looking at up to sixteen inches of snow, over Thursday and early Friday, which suddenly takes the week down from four mailing days to um, today, so if I want to mail these things this year, I'd better get crackin'.

Hope those who celebrate had a lovely holiday, and that the weather where you are hasn't been dreadful.

That is an incredibly cool board. May one ask from where it was acquired?

We got it from Hammacher Schlemmer. The Official Name is The Lexicographer's Scrabble: http://www.hammacher.com/Product/81810?promo=search

What had ailed Sock?
And yes, you two *are* slackers.

He had a bowel blockage. It was easily dealt with, since we caught it relatively early, but not something to put off for a couple days. This poor cat can't catch a break.

I hope Socks has a good recovery.

We're having heavy snow here now. I had to drive home to Pennsylvania from Maryland this morning and the first hour of the drive featured a mix of sleet and rain. At least the precipitation stopped before I got far enough north for the temperature to be below freezing. I wouldn't have wanted to be driving in what's coming down now.

But at least he's okay and recovering, poor kitten

Indeed, I think he did catch a break when he was adopted by the Rolanni-Kinzel clan.

Sweet sweet kitty, so many challenges. Yet it seems he lives his life with lively curiosity and charm. And sleeps with wild abandon. Smile.

Should I find it worrisome that I am sorely tempted to try making a list of all the words on the board, and then see if there is a story there? I mean, I notice that down near the bottom, we have duty, up, tip, pi, pen, new, men in a small complex, hanging off wry mood, that almost seems to beg to become a soaring tale of duty, wherein men with a new pen follow up a tip, finding the PI who had been lost along with Auntie Em... or some such. But then there's the flake who got laid with a mitre... stop, stop, I can't go on.

I'll just stick with a gust of squints that get pawned, and quit now.

Looks like lots of fun.

Sift a gothic one peg...

Glad to know Socks is ok. I agree. He did catch a big break when he got amalgamated to the Rolanni-Kinzel clan. We got snow here in TX panhandle -- maybe a whole inch! Was quite a surprise to wake up to Xmas morning. Weather man said it would miss us. Wrong again.
Might one inquire why a music stand was needed? One is intrigued by the notion.

Whew. Glad the nice emergency vet was able to help Socks quickly. I know how hard these pet cliff hangers can be. Please wish Socks all the best from my naughty furry Gang of Five.

Also I hope it's not 15" of snow. That's too much.

Down near Dallas we had an equally unexpected 2-1/2" that started during Christmas dinner. And I am quite ready now for it to warm up again.

I agree, AWESOME Scrabble board. One wonders how big the tiles are. But plastic, pleh! I loved those smooth-sanded wood ones.

Best wishes to Socks.

Ah, I see you are also enjoying the expanded Scrabble. Are Liaden words allowed in your household or only by special negotiation?

When I gave the new game to Jennifer Dunne and told her that this version had more letters, her first question was "Which alphabet?" :-)

That's a very reasonable question.

The standing rule in Lee and Miller Scrabble play is that words we use in everyday conversation are allowable -- that way, we get Liaden words, Yiddish words, and the occasional Spanish word.
