On hot days, my kittehs are in favor of the kitchen floor, which is vinyl tile laid directly on the concrete slab. Alas, they keep heating up the spot they're lying on, and have to get up and move to a cooler spot. Unusual experience to walk across the cool floor in bare feet and step onto a recently vacated warm spot. Much preferred, however, to stepping into something they decided they didn't like after they'd already eaten it -- one of the perils of living with kittehs. .
My father once had one of the smartest kitties I knew when it came to hot weather. Any time it got too hot he would sit in the bathtub and YOWL until someone came in, put the plug in the tub, and ran the water halfway up the slope of the tub bottom. Then he'd sleep on the dry up half, with evaporation-cooled porcelain wicking the heat out from under him. This was in Georgia, summertime, no air conditioning.
How he trained the humans to know what he wanted is beyond me. I think probably telepathy.
Mozart's really adorable, though the fur shelf looks hot to me. Recently on a hot day, while watering outside I got the stone step wet, so it got some evaporative cooling. I sent the subsequent cat-pic into Cheezland.org. http://cheezland.org/2013/07/cuddling-impossible/
