I've been seeing a lot of squee about Winter Soldier, and! it so happens that I still have two matinee admissions left on my Flagship Cinema gift card.  I'm drawn to the squee, but. . .not Cap's biggest fan here, so I'm torn.  Have you seen Winter Soldier?  What did you like about it (as reasonably as you can without spoilers)?  Do you think there's enough Other Stuff/Characters to carry the movie for someone who's lukewarm (at best) on Captain America?

In other, completely unrelated news, the blurb for Carousel Seas is now up at Amazon -- here's the link -- from which we learn, among other things, that Carousel Sun is/was a National Bestseller, according, I'm thinking, to Bookscan.  Which is nice to know.

In that same vein, and for those who did not read it elsewhere, Liaden Universe® Constellation Volume 2 appeared in the Locus Bestseller List for Trade Paperbacks reported in the April issue, at Number Two, just behind Fahrenheit 451.

Thank you all, because we surely couldn't have achieved either of those list without you.

Here at the Cat Farm, it's warm again, and sunny, but we're not going to the ocean.  I've done the dishes, and groomed the cats, and other Sunday chore sorts of things and in a couple minutes, I'll be turning off the intertubes and getting down to work.

Hope y'all are having an enjoyable weekend.

I'm not a big Cap America fan either, but did enjoy the movie. I came out of the theater thrilled by the addition of Falcon. His involvement made things more fun for me.

Falcon was possibly the best part of the movie, yeah. I *loved* him.

Capt. America isn't my fav either. If you are interested in the ongoing Marvel story arc this forwards it with character development and plot. Plus lots of things blow up which is a given with any Marvel movie. I recommend it.

Off on a tangent, or a carousel, someone pointed me to this on Google Plus. Don't know if you can see it without an account . . .

I don't have a Google Plus account, and I could see it, along with a little note in the header saying "Shared publicly".

I saw Winter Soldier this afternoon and liked it, despite not having caught the first Captain America film at all. This one's something of an ensemble piece -- there's solid screen time for Black Widow, for Nick Fury, and for the new guy, Falcon. Also, there is significant plot cross-threading between the film and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series -- each work stands on its own, but if you're following both, events in one play into the other.

I have seen several reviews that describe this film as essentially a Cold War spy/action adventure with an overlay of superheroes, and they're not wrong. In fact, this is sort of a classic-television hybrid: one part Man From U.N.C.L.E. (for the "massive secret organizations" background with an overlay of wit), one part The A-Team (for the mayhem, explosions, and team-of-outsiders motif), and about half a part West Wing (for surprisingly thoughtful treatment of the political themes, plus unusually good character chemistry between the various leads).

So I'd say it's worth seeing. That said, the other movie I want to catch this week is Muppets Most Wanted, about which I've been hearing fairly good things; if I had two matinee tickets burning a hole in my pocket and those two films to pick from, it would be a tough choice for me.

Another here who's not a big Cap fan, though I'm a big comic fan in general. It's much more of a spy/action movie about S.H,I.E.L.D with Cap as the main character. Very good though. I'd put it at third place among the Marvel movies (after Avengers and the first Iron Man).

It had a lot of "How does a man with a Firm Code of Honor deal with Dirty politics," which I think would be a theme of interest to you. Answers it Very satisfyingly, to my mind. Great fight scenes, especially the one on one mayhem, where you can actually follow the flow of the fight.

Cora Buhlert has just done two posts on her impressions of Winter Soldier and she quite liked it, but then she's not coming to it from an American perspective

I like all Avengers movies so I'm sure I'll like this one. Glad that Commander Fury himself will be there. the movie is coming soon to our little theater in our little town.
