Frequent auditors of this blog will recall that Steve and I are selling our house in the country in order to move into town.  The house really is in the country, about six miles from the Winslow shopping district, and sits on 1.74 acres of mostly wooded land.  We like birds and butterflies, so we made a deliberate effort to encourage trees and plants that draw them.

In Maine-speak, the house is a raised ranch, which means it's a ranch house over a full basement.  The upper floor has three bedrooms (two now used as offices), a bathroom, kitchen, and living room.  We just replaced the old deck with a slightly smaller, roofed porch, which we're enjoying the heck out of this summer.

Half of the basement is finished, with wood paneling and an "all-nighter" woodstove.  You can walk out of the basement directly into the back yard.

It is, let me say, a comfortable house, and I'm gonna miss it when we move, but move we must, for reasons that have nothing at all to do with the house.

So!  If you, or a friend, or a relative are looking for a home, ours is for sale.  Our real estate agent has put together a very nice virtual slide show, which you can look at, and share, here There's  narration, so you'll want to have the speakers on.

PLEASE NOTE:  Several of the pictures include cats.  The cats do not (that's NOT) come with the property.

Nice presentation. How's the hunt for the new nest coming?

We have seen one house that, if we had to move tomorrow, is that combination of affordable and possible. It is, sadly, in Augusta, and it would want to die of embarrassment upon being asked to accept my furniture into its rooms (it's far too well-bred a house to actually cause a fuss), but we're hoping for something a little less well-bred, and in Waterville.

We thought it would be the house we went to see yesterday, but. . .it will not do, so we're sorta back to square one. I keep having these moments where I think we'll take the house back off the market, and see if we can't hire a cabana boy to do the heavy lifting. Steve is Not Sanguine in re the cabana boy. . .

Just don't let the process wear you down to the point where you make a hasty decision. Glad taking it off the market is at least marginally still on the table, as that does take some of the time pressure off.

How about an intern? Academic circles seem to have those floating around, and offering a job as an intern to a MFA or such student might be quite the attraction?

Nice House

It was really cool to look at your home-tour. One learns a lot from seeing how folks have set up your home. It's tasteful yet homey.

Living in Maine would be cool. Were I interested in a major life change, I'd be over to see this like a shot. (Five hours from Glens Falls, NY.)

Best of success in your plans.
