As I drink my first cup of coffee on this lowering and damp Saturday morning, 66% of Dragon in Exile's Penultimate Manuscript is Ultimate. This is down from yesterday evening's report to Facebook of 68%, because Steve needed to tweak the Last Missing Scene, and tweaking added words.  The Penultimate Manuscript, then -- and always realizing that this is a Fluid Thing -- stands at 125,000 words.  It is equally possible, in the upcoming process, that we will lose or gain words.  Occasionally, the word count at the end of the last edit remains exactly the same, but the specific words have all been altered.

In any case, I have 34% or about 36,000 words/190 pages of Penultimate Draft to transform into Ultimate Draft.  The 83,000 words that lie behind me had been pretty well gone over, and over, and over, so progress was swift.  The ones that lie ahead -- not so much with the polishing.  Expect progress to slow.

The final draft is due to Madame the Editor on Monday, September 15, and we're still well on track to meet that deadline.

For those playing along at home, I have heard from the Top Secret Office at Nook Press, which assures me that they are looking into the non-payment problem.  So, that.

And I think that's all I've got. Writers are boring when they're on deadline. . .

So!  What're you doing this weekend that's fun?

Fun? Decided that mowing the lawn in the murk out there is contraindicated.

Off to the Farmer's Market with my 90 year old aunt in tow. Then we'll view two youth soccer games, and retire to read our books this afternoon during the worst of the heat. Delighted to hear the progress on the draft!

I went to a dinner dance of the Scottish country type. It was fun and tiring. I have no dance left in me this evening.

Did they pipe in the haggis?

Our local group has a Robert Burns Night supper and dance in January, but they start the dancing lessons now. They are REALLY serious about their dancing. They also have a haggis, delivered to the hall escorted by bagpipers, and, of course, someone recites Robert Burns' "Address tae the Haggis.' This can be enjoyable if you started on the single malt at least an hour beforehand.

No, we only do that in January too. We had roast meat and vegetables and some nice desserts and wine for those that drank it and punch for those of us who don't or who were driving.

We did have a bagpiper to start off with though. He played Waltzing Matilda (which I believe was originally a Scottish marching tune) and then the Road to Gundagai which I'm fairly sure was not.

There were some challenging dances, and while not all dancers were of pilot level ability, everyone had fun. I do enjoy the both physical and mental challenge that this sort of dancing gives.

For Various Definitions of Fun...

Fun? weekend reducing clutter

After hearing your stories of the hassle reducing goods prior to moving, I was encouraged to make a head start before I reach the actual moving stage. I have no concrete plans, but when you reach our age, there is always that little worry in the back of the brain--what if I need to move to [pick one: senior housing, nursing home, one floor, smaller place, cheaper place,...]? I inherited a house full of three generations worth of pack-ratting, so it's not just my own stuff. I need more of a head start than some others.

Someone is coming in again today to help with lifting, carrying, and to give needed emotional support. The neighbors must be wondering at the piles of recycling and trash that have graced my curb for the past several weeks.

I had someone come in with his grandsons to haul away the fixtures from my grandfather's cabinetmaking shop. These were in our basement since 1958, so it gives you an indication of the extent of the problem. Of course, all the valuable tools and equipment had been sold in '58. Wish I could find something buried here that would make the work financially worthwhile. My aunt used to say, "A job well done is its own reward." Didn't sound any better then, either.

Off to the Greek Church down the road for Greek Fest! music, dancing, good food, and , my once a year indulgence in Retsina. Love the stuff. Don't let myself buy bottles :)

And a movie with a friend. Sorry to be so happy y'all. But the sun is partly out and it is not raining . All be well.

Going to the Farmer's Market, to a bookstore, a local farmstand and a local fair (in that order) because that's what my brother decided he wanted to do for his birthday.

And waiting for the rain that's supposed to arrive momentarily. It's been massively hot and humid, and we want the rain so we can cool off!
So far, all we've gotten is a few paltry drops and some thunder. The weather is slacking off
