rolanni: (Mouse and Dragon)

Eye Candy, with a twist

I have been remiss in letting y'all know of a wonderful present created for you -- yes, you! -- by David Mattingly, in concert with Toni Weisskopf, Madame the Publisher, of Baen Books.

David, of course, has painted six brilliant Liaden Universe® covers: Saltation, Mouse and Dragon, Ghost Ship, Dragon Ship, Necessity's Child, and Dragon in Exile.  We admire his work greatly, but with this time, he's outdone himself.

Without further ado, then, we offer you the animated version of the cover for Dragon in Exile, an effort that has variously been described as wonderful, terrifying, cheesy, fabulous, frisking weird, annoying, awesome, great, and stunning.

What do you think?  Take a look and let me know.

Wonderful & stunning are appropriate.

I'd play that MMO!

I think it's hysterical. :)

All the wonderful things you can do with layers;) Wonder how long it'll be before actual paper book covers will be animated. Surely eBooks will lead the charge.

The animation needs music, but in protest for (still!) not being able to find the damn cat, I decided on the Benny Hill theme - Yackety Sax. Take that, cat! ;p

Hope the cat soon takes pity on the human and permits you to find 'em!

I fear I'm overthinking this whole thing ;p

In re the cat

A hint: look higher than you think you need to.

[identity profile] bandicoot.livejournal.com 2015-01-18 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I am, apparently, an abject failure. Or I'm looking for an actual cat and what's there is something that just looks like a cat. Which I can't find, either ;/

Another hint

Look in places that it's absolutely impossible for a cat to be.

Ah, there it is. Yes, a cat could not actually be in that spot.

Congratulations, we knew you had it in you (no, wait, that's what you say to a pregnant woman who delivers after forty weeks) we knew you'd find it eventually!

I am not [livejournal.com profile] bandicoot, and I am definitely not a pregnant woman of any stripe, but merely another reader who was questing in vain for that elusive cat. Nevertheless, I thank you for the kind words. :)

I kept looking for something in the flames of the explosion... it was pretty cool

Cool. Totally cool
Be nice if they could do it for the e-book cover!

Staggeringly, hysterically wonderful, is what it is!

Glad to catch up on all the Cat Farm Car news. I've been a bit under the weather and so late in catching up. Glad everyone is currently fine.

Love it!

Thanks for sharing.

PS Still cannot find the cat!

[identity profile] margotinez.livejournal.com 2015-01-21 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, cannot find the cat. It would be nice to have a "spoiler alert" somewhere, telling EXACTLY where the cat is on each cover, for those of us who are so seriously art-challenged.

If you want, you can e-mail me at s_roberts aT yahoo period you know what comes after, or track down my Livejournal and put the question in a comment on a post. But look at my hints above first, since it's more fun to find it yourself.
