Yes, the Blizzard of Historic Proportions has reached the Cat Farm and Confusion Factory.  The snow is not heavy and wet, but light and fluffy.  This is a point in its favor.  However, it is SO light and fluffy, and the winds so fierce and steady, that it's impossible to tell how much snow has actually fallen.  I've shoveled out the escape route twice -- the first time, it was less than two inches on the (covered) deck, and up to my knees at the bottom of the stairs.  The second time, it looked to be about five inches on the deck and the snow at the bottom of the stairs was well above my knees.  In a couple minutes, I'll be going out again, but a quick look at the deck reveals a depth of about five inches, so I'm sorta treading (frozen) water, here.

The just-in report from the Maine Weather Service tells us that we're going to be experiencing Blizzard Conditions until 4 a.m.  In the meantime, the winds, which have been relentless, are going to be increasing in intensity.  I see that Manticus Rock, my Favorite Weather Station EVER, reported winds of 67 mph at noontime.  Of course, Manticus Rock is 23 miles into Penobscot Bay, where conditions are a mite rugged.  Here in land-locked East Winslow, the strongest wind measured so far is a measly 30 miles an hour.  Temps are 12F/-11C, with a windchill of -10F/-23C.

Nippy, ayuh.

In other good news, the power's been steady as she goes.

I had planned on getting lots of  writing done, but the shoveling kind of takes it out of me, and I hadn't exactly figured a two-hour nap into the day.  We shall see.

. . .and that? Was the bell reminding me that it's time to go clear blizzard off the deck and the outside stairs.

How are conditions where you are?

The Blizzard of Histrionic Proportions! Or so say the folks in NYC ;)

Glad your snow's light. I hadn't realized the extent of the wind, particularly along the coastal areas. The biggest worry I had with heavy snow was wet snow piling up on roofs. Between your light snow and the wind, I doubt you have that concern, at least, even if it does mean more if somewhat lighter shovelings.

We had a nice warm weekend, but it suddenly got cold last night as a front moved through from the south. It's 57 at the moment, so I'm about to bundle up and take a walk.

Continued unseasonably warm (35F) & overcast. We're due some light snow in the seven-day, and a return to seasonable temperatures this weekend.

Western Long Island got lucky, with only about 6-8" of snow. The sun was out earlier, so I dug out my car, but it's looking gray again now. Might get a little bit more precip tonight, might not.

Just finished the first snowblower run. And of course the city plow came by after I'd parked the beast. But we have a car available if we suddenly decide to drive south until we hit Key West . . .

The snow here ended yesterday evening, leaving about 3 inches of accumulation. There is a strange glowing orb in the sky now. I like it.

I hope you stay warm and safe in the blizzard.

28" or so inches here in NE Massachusetts, according to NWS, with lots of blowing and drifting. possibly another 4ish inches expected. School is already closed for tomorrow so will figure out plans for Wednesday when we all wake up and take a look at the roads. Keep warm up there!

Down in the Bath\Brunswick area I too have no idea how much snow we got, what with the wind. I believe 2 feet and it is still going and the wind is still string. They plowed the complex parking lot before noon, but you would not know it to look now. Stay warm and safe!

As the snow seems to have stopped for a bit, I went out to shovel; it looked to be up to my knees, so better shovel smaller amounts twice than a giant amount once, I thought .... and a neighbor brought his Bobcat by and plowed out the end of my driveway! Totally without being asked! So, the porch/ramp/car, remnants of driveway aaand mailbox were cleared before 2 pm!

The Left Coast of Lotusland experienced a dreary day today, but the temperature rose to 10 C and we had a trifle of sunshine just before sunset when the clouds to the West decided to go somewhere else for a while. There were a few scattered raindrops here and there, because Left Coast. Tomorrow is expected to be much the same.
