This has been Quite the Week.  Though it's early days yet, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it may well get the nod as Worst Week of 2015.  In fact, thinking about it, I'd prefer that.

So, recapping for those who were busy digging out of snowstorms, or, yanno, having a life, this was the week that was:

On Sunday, I pulled a marathon session and finished the taxes, sat with Mozart, and tried to think of Another Way

On Monday, having failed to find Another Way, we said good-bye to Mozart

On Tuesday, korval.com vanished from the internets, and much of Steve's time over the following days has been dedicated to solving that problem, which is stupidly complicated, and has not yet been solved.  We have received word that Progress, for some definition of Progress, is being made, so, perhaps, someday soon, korval.com will reappear and I'll be able to get my mail.

Much of my time over Wednesday and Thursday involved trying to remove snow from the roof over the deck, which appears to be not quite adequately pitched for the demands of an Extra Snowy Maine Winter.

Friday, was also partly about snow removal, and battening down for THE BLIZZARD that was to begin in Maine on Saturday afternoon and continue through to Monday morning, after dropping up to 24 inches of new snow on our heads.

. . .and now we have hope that this week will be considerably better than last, because. . .

THE BLIZZARD has blown itself out, even as I type, leaving, perhaps, two inches of snow in its wake.  We may have some Wind for the rest of the day, but no more snow.

So!  That's what's been going on at my house.  What's been going on at yours?

I saw that York and Cumberland counties were getting whacked. Funny storm path on this one. Hang in there.

I caught a glimpse of a viral video on TV this morning where this guy went nova because he claimed his neighbor was blowing snow on HIS PROPERTY! The constant snow does make people insane after awhile.

You'll hate me, but it's been in the high 70s and low 80s this week. I plan on a nice walk this afternoon.

Hope you have a warmer, dryer and very productive week, given I've just finished my third read of Dragon and am currently on the edge of my chair ... ... ... ... ;)

Shoveling out the car, that the Sunday tradition of Fetching the Rolls and Papers might be carried out.
The drive was made a bit more complicated by drifiting snow at one point reducing the road to a lane-and-a-half and visibility to the car-hood .... fortunately that was a *short* bit.

Then I came home, read the funnies while eating a bagle, and cleaned. Coulda been worse ....

Hoping for a better week

Am still sorry about the very skinny turkey who emerged from underneath the deck. I hope he's able to find something to eat somewhere. Here it is extremely warm. We've had no winter in UT during the day. the temp goes down at night to just above freezing. There's a flock of extremely fat wild turkey's at the sanctuary at Best Friends. They know they are in a safe place so are extremely sassy.

Hoping for no snow for you at all for a while. and for the return of the korval.com.

Saw a picture on Twitter yesterday, & thought of you. Purportedly taken at Home Depot, which must have sold out of roof rakes: it was a garden rake with a 5 foot or so piece of board (1x6?) duct-taped to the tines, and a length of tubing (PVC or conduit) duct-taped to the end of the rake handle. It struck me as a very Yankee solution to the problem :-)

Snow, Snow, Go away

So insanity doesn't run in my family, it gallops. [Now where did that quote come from?]

I went to Boskone. I had a brain storm, and drove in on Thursday afternoon, and parked inside the parking garage at Alewife (Sort of North West Boston area), and was in my Hotel by 5:30. This was the overflow hotel, and I was in for a walk between hotels Friday morning.[Brrrr.] But by Friday morning, I accepted that the Snow ghods were going to win, and made a Sunday night reservation at the Main hotel.

Boston was un-officialy shut down. With the Mayor encouraging people to go out for Valentines day, but be home by Midnight. The Subway (The-T) was officially to be closed on Sunday, and and if you were in a flat/open-air parking lot, you had to move your car.

So, the Lee & Miller duo who canceled out of Boskone, were just the first of many. The convention was quiet (to the chagrin of dealers & artists), and rather nice. The hotel people were nice, and snowed in with us all.

Sunday around 1PM, the skies cleared (Yes even blue skies), and except for when the wind gusted, quite lovely to look at.... deadly to walk in.

Today, there were visible snow drifts, trying to fall off of the tops of buildings, but clear roads for driving. The outside lines of the subway were not running (i.e. Green line no-go, but Red line is mostly tunnels, and closed everywhere else)

Boston has a large archery target drawn on it. They are already the 3rd snowiest year on record. They expect Tuesday night to push them to #2, and only 12 more inches would be needed to break the records.... And we still have 5 more weeks before March 21, and Spring.

Boston's been acting as our snow buffer, and we still have too much. As much as we missed going to the con and seeing everybody, boy did we make the right call!

Glad you thought ahead and stayed safe.

Slipped and fell after the Super Bowl, leaving our daughter's house. Spent the night in the emergency room, surgery on Monday to place plate and screws in right ankle, 3 more days in hospital, then transfer to Rehab facility where I remain for several more weeks. No fun, but at least I am able to serve as my own patient advocate. Flew my 91 year old aunt up to care for my 82 year old husband. He drives and does laundry, she cooks and remembers things and folds the laundry. Our daughter is the other fully capable adult in this support system, (besides me) and has been a rock of support. I'm trying to keep up a couple of the things I do for her, such as doing homework with the kids, and she is uncluttering my house with my full support and guidance, so we will be able to get a wheel chair through. (but she is the heavy lifter, while my aunt makes lists of what we are donating. I'm non load bearing on right leg for at least 6 to 8 weeks, but the left leg and foot are wonky so limit what I can do with them. Obviously no crutches for me, but I cannot "hop" on left foot using a walker. TMI. Sigh. On the bright side, I plan to lose a significant amount of weight over this.

My leg and other pain cannot compare to the pain of losing Mozart. My focus for tonight is to declare that next week and following weeks WILL be better for you and Steve and remaining cat family. How are they coping?

I'm very sorry -- I think you may have won the competition. I can tell you that crutches aren't all they're cracked up to be, even without a walker in the equation. When I sprained my ankle, a couple years ago, my doctor at last gave me a moon boot, that had inflatable bladders inside, so I could just walk, for values of walking that include lurching like Frankenstein's monster. Maybe that's something for you, after all the hardware settles?

I'm glad you have such willing workers to help you out and make the house ready for your return.

The younger cats still seem to be keeping watch for Grandpa. When we came home from seeing a movie yesterday, they made a point of checking his Usual Places, just in case he had managed to sneak in past them. They've also made adjustments in the Schedule, so that the distribution of Felines to Thumbs is in balance.

Scrabble has, I think, understood the situation, and hasn't much to say. In accordance with the new Schedule, she is spending time in the rocker in my office again, when she had mostly moved back to Steve's office.
