We picked up Mozart's ashes today.

Then, we went for a ride.  Not a long ride; only to Augusta.  We walked around Lowe's and did our bit for morale by asking a passing Lowe-worker where the roof-rakes might be found.  Not one to be had in the store, we were told, in-between gasps of laughter.  Possibly not one to be had in greater New England.

After we had sowed our seeds of merriment, we went to Best Buy, where I finally succumbed and purchased the Shiny, the Canon PowerShot SX700HS 30X with the Bundled Goodies.  It's about half as thick as my venerable PowerShot 120IS 10X, and weighs just about the same.  The challenge here is going to be remembering not to just stick it into a pocket and forget it's there.

In theory, it does all kinds of sweet things, none of which I've figured out, yet, including sending pictures via wifi.  What an age we live in.

Stopped at the grocery on the way home, because we are once again about to go under a -- wait for it! -- Winter Storm Watch.  The theory is that we may received from 5-11 inches of snow from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon.

After that, we won't have to deal with any more snow until Saturday night into Sunday.

My plan for the rest of the week is to take the laptop, and retire with it and Alliance of Equals to the couch and do nothing else -- except shovel snow, of course  (and tomorrow's my turn to make dinner, but that'll be meatballs (already made) and rotinis, with gravy.  Easy-peasy.).  The Kid Coons aren't entirely sure that they Approve of the laptop, which takes up precious lap-space that could more fruitfully be occupied by a coon cat.  Sprite, in particular, believes that she can too fit in the space between me and the keyboard.

Just for the record?

She can't.

For those who were breathlessly awaiting my impression of Jupiter Ascending -- I had a good time with it.  Mind you, I don't get to see many movies, so that probably pre-disposes me to being amused and pleased by those I do see, but to my way of thinking, I had three winners in a row:  Guardians of the Galaxy, Big Hero6, and Jupiter Ascending.

What did you do today that was exciting?

They had a box full of roof rakes at Home Despot the other day. Probably all gone now.

Somewhere, trapped in the snow, are semi truck loads of roof rakes bound for New England. Trapped right next to the truck loads of snow blowers ;)

I am waiting for Jupiter Ascending to come to our little theater in our little town. I know I will like it because I like all such movies. Seems like a really good story.

Good luck with your roof.

I would make my own roof rake using a board and a piece of rope. I would get a 2.5-3 foot piece of 1x8 board and a 50 foot length of clothesline rope (or similar thin rope like sisal), drill 2 holes at each end of the board like you were going to make a swing seat, cut two pieces of rope about 4 feet long and thread each piece through the holes on one end and tie them off. I would probably tie knots on each side of the rope next to the board so it won't slip around while you're dragging it before tying off the loop. Then tie the ends of the loops to the rest of the rope. This should give you a substantial enough tool that it will sink into the snow when you throw it on the roof without it being too heavy to heave. And the length of rope should let you get far enough away from the overhang that you don't pull the snow down on your head. This is a cheap fix. The rope would be about $3-5, and the board (pine 1x8x4) is about $10 (our Lowe's will cut boards to size for you--usually free or .25 cents per cut). You would probably need a 1/4 or 5/8 inch spade bit for your drill too. This is similar to your bucket on a rope, but should give you more surface area for dragging off more snow.

I wrote a physics test last night and edited it today.

My tuxedo cat believes that all laps belong to him, and that laptops are the enemy of good naps. Working from home quickly becomes grading quizzes on the back of a cat.

Knitting, working (proofreading voice rec(or is that "wreck")cognition software produced documents), often both at the same time. Being a strange attractor for the purr-bearing critter contingent (I have the grey one curled up between my knees on the recliner footrest -- atop the lap robe, kind of hammocky, and a perennial favorite -- the black one would love to usurp her place, but at 16 lbs, he's so dang fat he collapses the footrest when he tries to get up on it.).
Hearing you recount being in the throes of snows, I feel guilty. Yesterday's high was 80F degrees (Texas panhandle). We're supposed to have rain Sunday with a high of 35F, go below freezing that night and have snow Monday with a high of 31F. (I knew you could use a good laugh. . .) Here where I live, it is "semi arid" and at the same latitude as Casablanca, Morocco, which means we don't get a lot of any kind of precipitation, especially the frozen kind. When we do, it means Demolition Derby Day on the city streets because cowboys and pickups. Looks like we'll be having Demolition Derby Days for two days hand running. I plan to stay off the streets, even if I was still driving the 27-year-old Toyota Crayola, which I'm not as it went to that Big Used Car Lot In The Sky in November, and I'm driving a brand hew Toyota Crayola, all the more reason to stay in. I have food, books, kitties, and knitting. (and lap robes); what more do I need, other than the next Liaden book . . .?
