rolanni: (The Dragon in Exile)

This came in email; I assume it's been sent to all Baen .mobi customers

Dear Baen Ebooks customer,

Starting on or about June 10, 2015, Baen Ebooks will no longer be able to provide automatic delivery of the .mobi format to a Kindle device via the "Email book to my Kindle" feature. We have just learned that to comply with Amazon's Terms of Use, Baen Ebooks cannot use Amazon's Personal Documents Service to deliver paid content.

Baen Ebooks will still offer the "Mobi/Palm/Kindle" format with every Ebook we sell. If you want to read that format on a Kindle, there is only one change: You can no longer send the Ebook directly to your Kindle from our site. You can, however, still email your .mobi Ebook to your Kindle by following these directions:

  1. Log in to your Amazon Kindle account and Amazon Kindle Manager.

  2. In Amazon Kindle Manager, add your personal email address to your list of approved senders under Manage Your Content and Devices Settings.

  3. Log in to your account on Baen Ebooks and navigate to your purchased Ebook's product page.

  4. Click "Email book to my Kindle."

  5. Enter your personal email address into the email address box.

  6. Press send.

  7. Check your email. You should receive an email from Ebooks@baenebooks.com with a .mobi file attached.

  8. Forward this email to your Kindle, making sure the .mobi file remains attached. Within 15 minutes, your Ebook should be on your Kindle.

For more information on how to load Baen Ebooks onto your Kindle device, check out our Ereader Instruction page: http://www.baenebooks.com/t-ereaderinstructions.aspx#kindle

If you have any questions about how to access the Kindle Ebooks you've purchased from Baen, please email us at baensupport@principledtechnologies.com.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this change causes. Thank you for your patience and support of Baen Books.

Regards,
Baen Ebooks Web Team

Wouldn't it be easier simply to download the book from the Baen site to your computer, and then use the "send to my Kindle" from your downloads file?

Do you have a "send to my Kindle" from your files when you click on them?

I just put them in my kindle folder on the computer and let Calibre pick it up and sync with the kindle.

I adore Calibre -- does it have an auto-ingest function added I didn't know of? I just download everything (usually in epub) and ingest it manually.

In any case, Baen isn't going to want to rely on any external software for its "send to Kindle" instructions.

Calibre just has an Add (+) function that brings a selected book in from a folder. Probably from other things, too, but that's just the way I use it. Then it'll sync with the kindle.

Since I get most of my ebooks from Amazon, I download them to my kindle reader software folder, then use Calibre to bring it into Calibre and sync the kindle. This to keep the kindle off the web and out of Amazon's clutches. I've heard too many stories of them deleting books on your own machine to trust them. Hence multiple copies and keeping the kindle away from Amazon. But the same applies to Baen - I just download the files to the kindle library and follow the same procedure to get them into Calibre and the kindle.

I have all my books in Calibre too, but before this I always did it the opposite way, adding them to Calibre after they were in the device. I bought Dragon in Exile from Baen, added it to Calibre and sent it to the Kindle and it worked just as you all said. Thanks to one and all!

Yes, all I have to do is right-click (I'm on a PC) on the download file, and "send to my Kindle" shows up in the dropdown file. It's an Amazon app I downloaded to my computer. Click and done.

There is also an email associated with my Kindle, so I suppose you could email from the Baen site to the Kindle. But I rarely bother with that (I think I've only done it once; maybe this is what Baen can't do any more).
