Lovely as it was on so many levels, it is just barely possible that I ought not to have gone on vacation. My brain spent a lot of time in story-space, a place that is infinitely preferable to the hot and airless attic room under the eaves at the day-job. Also? No suffrage for fools appears to have survived my week off. Which is not exactly useful when dealing with faculty who, while on their summer vacation, apparently expect the secretary to be on 24/7. Happily, at the end of the school year most of my faculty just...went. And most of those remaining are...grownups. Those who fall into neither category, however...oy.

I have, by way of Fair Warning, engaged the services of a Black Knight, who looks Very Handsome Indeed on my desk, and gives me heart. Sadly, heart is not what's wanted, but who am I to argue against nature?

Tonight when I go home, I'm going to crack the Fledgling file and start in on making some of the upgrades and changes. This is something that I'm looking forward to doing, and which I fully expect to be fun, in a bizarre, bang-your-head-against-a-sentence-until-one-breaks way. I've also been making notes for the sequel to Scout's Progress, which is shaping up nicely, and looks to be a heckuva lot of fun to write.

...maybe I should just go back to the ocean...
