Retail reminders and opportunities to support the arts:

1.  Calamity’s Child echapbook (including Liaden Universe® story “Sweet Waters” and Steampunk short, “A Night at the Opera”) is on sale for the entire month of October (that’s now!) for $0.99US from the ebookstore of your choice:  BN, Smashwords, Amazon

2.  Frenchy and the Punk are this close to funding two brand-new-CDs over at Kickstarter.  Wouldn’t it be cool to be the donation that pushes them over the top?

3.  Also in Kickstarter news, C.E. Murphy is over the fence and running for higher ground.  The original goal has been met and the secondary goal, too! That means a second Gary short for those who donated to support the original novella.  The campaign is well on its way to accomplishing the third goal  — but this is getting complicated.  Go on over and take a look for yourselves.

4.  New Abney Park CD to be released on October 15! (holy crap, that’s this Saturday!)

5.  For those following the progress of Splinter Universe — I apologize.  “The Space at Tinsori Light,” scheduled for October, isn’t going to make it.  I need to stick with Necessity’s Child for the next while, and juggle a whole buncha real-life necessities.  I’ll try to get the story to you by Christmas.  Thank you for patience and understanding.

Amazon.com is apparently shipping The Agent Gambit a little ahead of its January 4 release date. Amazon is also now receiving reader reviews.

On the subject of reviews, if you have read Carousel Tides or Mouse and Dragon (or any of the books that came out in 2010, actually), please consider sharing your reactions with other readers on Amazon, BN, Goodreads, or the social reading site of your preference.

I thought I had done this, but can't find the entry, so! Better twice than never, as the saying goes.

This is a combination holiday! gift! post and an author! pimping! for! votes! post. Those who are not interested in these activities should certainly feel free to move on.

Books make wonderful presents
…this is true the year round, of course, for all occasions or for no reason at all. Nothing says I Love You More Than a Clean Living Room like the gift of a book.

For those who are giving (or receiving) a Kindle, Nook, Sony, Ipad, Android or any other of a head-swimming number of devices capable of reading ebooks, remember that an ebook reader is only half the present. The other half is: Something Excellent to read — and this is where I am uniquely placed to help you.

All published Lee and Miller, and Lee, novels, as well as some number of the short stories, are available for your ebook-reading device from Baen Webscriptions. Here’s your link. If you’d like a taste, first, sample chapters are posted for each book. While you’re over there at Webscriptions, take a look at the other titles on offer — lots of stuff to read there, and very reasonably priced, too!

Also! Sharon Lee’s first two Jenn Pierce mysteries, set in Wimsy, Maine are available electronically from Fictionwise. You can shop for them here.

But wait, there’s more!
Does someone on your list dote on audiobooks? Carousel Tides and Local Custom are available from Audible.com. You may listen to a sample of each on the page before you commit to a purchase.

Signed paper books
Probably too late to order from these wonderful vendors for a Christmas Day bestowing, but perfect for January birthdays — signed Lee and Miller, and Lee, novels and short story collections.

Ellen Richmond, Children’s Book Cellar, 207.872.4543 kidsbookscellarATmyfairpointDOTnet (where AT and DOT replace The Usual) — Lee and Miller titles, and Carousel Tides.

Jeanne Peterson Kamfonik, Beggar’s Ride Studio and Gallery, 207.937.2673, or request on www.facebook.com/beggarsrideart — Carousel Tides only

Awards!
As mentioned earlier in the month, Saltation is a finalist for a 2010 Goodreads Choice Award in the category of Science Fiction. You must be a member of Goodreads to vote (I am assured that this is a relatively painless operation). If you would like to vote for Theo, who is up against some Very Tough Competition, Indeed, here’s your link

There are also a good many other worthy books nominated in other categories, so you might want to take a look around, while you’re over at Goodreads. Voting continues until the end of December; winners in all categories announced on Janaury 5, 2011.

That’s it; commercial’s over. Thank you for your patience and support.

As advertised elsewhere, SRM Publisher is now taking pre-orders for the 2006 Yule Chapbook, working title Allies. This chapbook will include two short stories by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller: "Fighting Chance," reprinted from last year's Women of War, and an all-new, never-before-seen-and-not-yet-even-(ahem)-written story, title to be announced as soon as the authors come up with one. This chapbook, like Yule chapbooks of yore, will ship in November.

For the Liadens in the audience, I will note that this will be the twelfth chapbook in the Adventures in the Liaden Universe(R) series.

In other publishing news, the printer has surrendered the last batch of Gunshy, and the SRM elves are hard at work packing and mailing the pre-ordered copies. If you have hesitated to order Sharon Lee's second Maine mystery while it was still essentially vaporware, hesitate no longer.

By what art I hesitate to speculate, SRM Publisher has acquired one case each of The Summer Country, and The Winter Oak signed by author James A. Hetley, LJ's own [livejournal.com profile] jhetley. If you haven't read Jim's brand of toothy contemporary fantasy, you owe it to yourself to take a look.

SRM's latest publication is Buffalogenesis by Lawrence M. Schoen, aka [livejournal.com profile] klingonguy. If you've read the previous tales of the Amazing Conroy and his buffalodogs, collected in Buffalogic (SRM Publisher, Ltd. 2002), this second volume is a must-have. If you haven't yet encountered a buffalodog, be warned -- they are highly addictive. Both Buffalogenesis and Buffalogic may be ordered from the SRM Publisher catalog page.

While you're over at the SRM site, don't forget to check out the fine offerings from such splendid writers as Ru Emerson, Mark W. Tiedemann, and Bud Webster.
