Penguicon and Beyond

As mentioned elsewhere, we had a wonderful good time at Penguicon 4.0. The con folk were good to us; we were busy enough, but not too busy. There was coffee and ice cream, belly dancers and the Chaos Machine -- really, what was not to like?

[livejournal.com profile] madame_the_chef was the perfect GoH Liaison; we had only to lay a problem at her feet to see it solved. Not only that, but she was generous with her hedgehogs. Coco was everything that was charming, despite being woken up at what was, for her, an unghodly hour to make nice to the strange people from Maine, though her partner -- Reggie? -- chose to sleep through our visit, which was perfectly understandable. I have now held a hedgehog, fed hedgehog cookies and heard the Snuffle of Doom. Heady stuff -- and that was before the con.

After the con, Madame and daughter Claire introduced us to the joys of Hoof and Mouth. Fortunately, this is a four-handed card game, else no writing at all would be happening here at the Cat Farm...

At the con, we saw and talked to manymany friends -- Tom and Diane Peters; [livejournal.com profile] wdonohue; [livejournal.com profile] star_gazersusan; [livejournal.com profile] origamilady; [livejournal.com profile] magda_vogelsang; [livejournal.com profile] adina_atl; Bill and Carol Boyke, the Witches, and Bob the Bearded Dragon; John Scalzi, Karl Schroeder, Matthew Keaton among them.

High points of the con were the Friends of Liad Breakfast, where I made the acquaintance of Bob the Bearded Dragon -- who has quite a way with a red grape -- and the Stuffed Animal Tea Party. The latter event, originally scheduled for the con suite, far outgrew those quarters and was relocated to the lobby restaurant. Kudos to the Looneys for the idea, which I do believe I'll /l/i/f/t borrow, the next time [livejournal.com profile] kinzel and I are GoHs.

To sum up -- if you ever have a chance to attend Penguicon, take it!

For those of you who are interested in details, photos, and podcats demonstrating what a great weekend was had by all, I direct your attention to the following:

A brief report of yesterday, written pre-caffeine, is available here, written so hastily that I had noticed neither that [livejournal.com profile] kinzel's laptop had helpfully "recognized" him and posted my entry to his account nor that LJ had failed to recognize the tag for [livejournal.com profile] madame_the_chef, silly program.

This update comes from the Penguicon computer room, with the Chaos Machine taking over a good third of the front of the room and still a-buildin'. [livejournal.com profile] kinzel is presently building worlds with Karl Schroeder, Nancy Atwell and John Scalzi in The Pit. I started the day with an awesome massage, and then an eleven o'clock Welcome to Liad panel consisting of The Writers and two enthusiastic readers, Susan Harris and Tracy Worcester. Good for the ego -- and we had a good time, too.

The rest of the day is going to be a little harried. After [livejournal.com profile] kinzel's gig, we have a half-hour to stretch our legs, then a collaboration-how-we-do-it panel, the Stuffed Animal Tea Party, a quick in-room dinner and then on deck for the masquerade. Will check in when we can.
