rolanni: (kitty!)

So, this morning, Belle* visited the vet so we could see what's up with her newly acquired limp.  Best guess is that, in the course of pursuing her Justly Appointed Feline Duties and Honors, she strained, or possibly sprained her left front leg.  She weighs in at 16 pounds (which the vet pronounced "lean"), and insists on levitating to the top of six foot bookcases -- and then, naturally enough, jumping down again.  Apparently, it is the "jumping down again" segment, coupled with the 16 pounds at 32 feet per second per second, which is the problem.

She is, foremost, a cat, and telling her not to jump is Completely Out of the Questions -- see "Justly Appointed. . .Honors," above, so, after a thorough evaluation, the vet prescribed a non-steroid muscle relaxant for the next three days.  Hopefully, this will give the soft tissues some relief, but we are cautioned that soft tissue injuries do take Forever to heal, especially when the patient adamantly refuses RICE.

Belle thanks everyone who expressed concern for her, and wishes to assure them that she is not at risk, and that Sharon and Steve are Old Worry Warts.

So, that.

After we brought Belle home, I. . .went to town, to get my hair cut ("You're purple!" said my hairdresser.  "Yes," I said.  "Yes; I'm purple.", pick up our tickets to Rocky Horror at the Opera House, and our mail at the post office box, then got gas, and a tuna sandwich at Subway, which we are, I believe -- yes -- about to cut in half and eat.

And so the day goes forward.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday.

Today's blog post brought to you by Modern English, "I Melt With You."  Here's your link.

*Pop Quiz!  How do you -- yes, you! -- pronounce "Belle"?  We here at the Cat Farm say "Bell," as in "Ring that bell, mama!", or, perhaps "Belle of the Ball," which is Belle's formal name. However, several people we've subsequently met pronounce "Belle" as "Bella."

I've always assumed Bell...

My cats jumped down from a tall sleeping platform to a hard floor, and I got concerned as they got older. I provided several small intermediate landing platforms for them, which, of course, they preferred to ignore. Recently, though, I caught Piglet, my remaining cat, using the landing platforms instead of making the Long Jump. Maybe it just took him a year or two to get used to the idea.

I am grateful that my elderly cat is a cave cat and prefers to be *in* things rather than *on* things. Given that the 18-inch jump down from a chair takes some effort and thought, 6 feet would probably do her serious damage.

And I confess that I've been thinking of your much younger lady as Bella.

Bell. And I have to confess; Disney's song "Belle" from "Beauty and the Beast" sometimes plays in the background...

Years ago, I had a Siamese that thought the top of the bathroom door was her perch.
2.5 inch wide door 7 inch wide cat. What fun.

And don't forget the SURPRISE!!! factor when you close the door at 3:00AM

Glad to hear Miss Belle will be OK and hope she figures out that sometimes you just have to leave things off of your to do list.

I love it when you use song lyrics as daily blog titles since our tastes in music are just close enough to the same I occasionally find something new to me that I like.

Our Manx no longer attempts high places, which for the breed is quite strange. She hurt a hip years ago while jumping down and apparently, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, has sufficient reasoning ability to connect the action and the pain. (In no other way can we find evidence of such reasoning. She still doesn't understand 'The human is holding a treat so I might be able to eat it if I approach when called">)

And we say Belle's name in the same manner as you do.
