I'm curious as to what you thought about this one; it's in my to-be-read queue on the tablet, and I'm wondering if I should move it closer to the front of the line.

I liked it. I like books detailing magic systems that aren't the same old, same old; and I liked taking some time out in the Old West. I fear that the Old West is becoming the Next Hot Setting for Fantasy, and will therefore go the way of Urban Fantasy, but this one is an Original, that later writers of the Weird West will draw from, and it's fresh, and interesting, and well worth reading.

While there is threat and strangeness, there is a lack of Meaty Action Scenes, so if you're an Action Fan, you might find it a trifle slow. I felt that the pace was consistent with what the characters were doing -- i.e. riding horses across a mostly-empty land, where nothing happens until Something Does.

Hope this helps.
