Dare I ask what you thought of Burn for Me?

I pre-ordered the next two, since I got caught up in wondering how the authors were going to fix the massive problems afflicting their world.

I also was. . .fascinated is probably the best was to put it. . .by the various family dynamics, not least the frame which posits that a family's complete disregard for the wishes of one of its members, the snatching of the simple comfort of knowing he had left his family stable; that death had robbed them of nothing, save himself, from his hands -- framing that act of wanton cruelty as heroism.

. . .possibly I was expected to take this at face value -- that there is no greater proof of love than throwing away the future. But, I kinda want to see if they don't take it someplace. . .less traditional.

And, yanno, if they don't, I've thought about the concept, and am working out why I find it so dreadful, so -- grist for the mill.

Thank you for your thoughts. I was rather horrified by the same issue regarding the erasure of the father's efforts and desires. But my outrage was reserved for the blatant old-school Handsome Stalker business. "She was his, just didn't know it yet" is some painful retro motivation there.

That didn't bother me so much, since it's clear from the set-up dynamics that, while she may be his in the long run (given genre conventions), she's almost certainly going to put him through the emotional equivalents of several Industrial Grade Waring Blenders before that Happy Day of Fulfillment. I'd also enjoy seeing Our Heroine smarten up a tad, but she seems able to learn, so I'm hopeful on that head, as well.
