We have just been informed by Meisha Merlin that, because of an error at McNaughton and Gunn printers, Crystal Dragon will not -- that's NOT -- be available at Boskone. If you were planning on picking up Crystal Dragon at Boskone, be aware.

Also, the printer's best guess of when, exactly, Crystal Dragon will be shipped to Meisha Merlin (and thence to Lee and Miller for signing) is three weeks. This means that, if you pre-ordered a signed hardcover of Crystal Dragon, it will be shipping sometime in mid-March.

We very much regret this, and we reiterate that the problem is with the *printer*, not with the publisher.

Rats!

And commiserations to you and Steve, I know you must be disappointed.

I want my autographed copy so I can wait. Patiently. Fingers rapping on table. Rap. Rap. Rap.

It's okay, Sharon. Just write more.

I was hoping for a late B-day present, but I can wait. Pity they waited until the last possible minute to let you know. And I am sure, very frustrating, since surely booksales were part of the allure of Boskone. Not that you wouldn't have gone anyway, but it is nice to have a hook, as it were. I don't know much about publishing. Is self-printing completely out of the realm of possibilities for Meisha Merlin? I know they're a small house.

I don't think even the Big Houses have their own presses and binderies; rather, they have printers that they usually do business with. The printer and binder that Meisha Merlin usually does business with is, um, Undergoing a Period of Expansion, apparently forgetting that in order to accommodate the increased business, they would have to have at least one more press. Which is being installed next month. In the meantime, one hears that EVERYthing is behind.

...and you will I hope forgive me if I express Very Little Sympathy for said printer's situation.
